I know what you mean. I've been there. It's all triggers that makes you think of all the times you used to smoke before. Try to impliment other things to replace the old habits. Relax and enjoy your vacation! I want to hear all about it when you get back, ok. Thanks again everyone, Interesting about banning smoking on the beaches. Yes.. you are right...I will be ahead of the game. I am so glad about not smoking at work also. Many places won't even let you smoke outside near the buildings. I believe I have my head in order and by tactics in place. I have plucked the eyebrows...biore jobed my nose....put my second coat of self tanner on....and tried the bathing suit on for one last time!! Why I would ever think I would thinner in my suit today than last night is beyond me...LOL... I will not smoke. It is doe-able. Yes... I remember packing and taking a ton of smoke breaks as I packed. I remember getting off the airplane and running for a smoke before getting my luggage. Yet... I also remember not liking myself smoking around the non smokers. It is like a love affair gone bad. You tend to remember just the good times after you break up. You have to get real..... and stay real. I look forward to returning and letting you guys know.....I DID NOT SMOKE. If there is a puter around I can use I will check in. If you were going to the beach in California you wouldn't be able to smoke because it's illegal to smoke on the beach. They are trying to pass similar laws in Florida, as well as every other coastal state so look at it this way, you are ahead of the game if you quit now. Print out a few posts that really speak to you to read if the going gets tough. A few scriptures and quotes might help as well. I don't go anywhere without a bag of sunflower seeds and diet green tea. Take a notebook and pencil and keep a vacation journal. How about some word search puzzles or crosswords? Hi Mercy, I experienced the exact same thing as I plan a fishing trip with my sweetheart. I made a list of all of my triggers, like boredom (not catching anything), celebration (I caught Bubba!), too hot, too cold, going too fast, going too slow, etc... What will I ever do for 4 days on the lake with no smokes??? Just writing down the triggers helped a lot! I'll still get bored and need to celebrate (hopefully), and I will have special little things on board to put into my mouth! I also reminded myself of the good things...no burn holes in the new boat, no ashes blowing back in my face, no worrying about my cigs if it starts to rain...etc. It helped me, and now I am looking forward to the trip as much as I ever did. It will be time for me to slow down, take some pictures, and appreciate nature, rather than thinking about my next smoke and trying to light it in the wind! Give it a try! You will sit on the porch and enjoy that balmy breeze, because you will be able to smell the fresh air this time! Ease up and enjoy the trip...it is a time to relax, not to stress over no smokes. It will be your best trip yet because you are a non-smoker! Mercy, I think it's all to do with fear. It's the cigarettes that cause the fear. Non smokers do not feel fear. Non smokers do not crave cigarettes. You are a non smoker. Enjoy Florida. Thanks again, Durring this quit I have a altoid metal container I put my nicorette pieces in. I am bringing that with me. I feel I am ready to quit the gum. I have two pieces of 2mg a day. But I am very convinced that it is a good idea to continue a couple of pieces of gum (when needed) on this vacation rather than risk anything. I know I will not smoke on this trip. It is NOT an option. I am looking forward to being very proud of myself when I return....and then.... finish the ordeal by quiting the nicorette gum. I have also bought sour tangerine altoids!! Have you tried them. They are sooo sour...but they do the trick. So I am puting a container of them in my purse too. Sure there is things I miss about smoking...but the longer I don't smoke the less I miss them. I don't want to lose this new me. I like this new me very much. I still ask.... if there is any vacation tips, let me know You guys are the best. Mercy...you yourself, listed a bunch of positive things about this vacation and NOT smoking.....there are tons more of them....keep your mind working in THAT direction....do not let ONE SINGLE "smoking thought" take root. keep it positive and upbeat...and if you feel yourself being swayed the other way by those smoking, then escape for a few minutes by yourself to get back in control I bet you will get by lots better than you are thinking? Often our worst worries are just that...only a worry. have a ball Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1906 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 76,273 Amount Saved: $10864.2 Life Gained: Days: 251 Hrs: 11 Mins: 30 Seconds: 3

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Thankyou, You are so right. The only smoker on the trip is my best friend. Her sister and family does not smoke. Now on the long car ride to visit people I don't have to be sitting in the back seat....at the mercy of the driver to have to pee.....so that I can grab a quick smoke!! I won't have to worry what to do with my butts on the beach. No more smelly beach bag cuz there is a few butts stached at the bottom to throw out later!! No more trying to fall asleep late at night, all wound up... because I had smoked a ton of cigarettes on the patio! No more sneaking a cigarette in the parking lot (real quick) before entering the resturant. No more knowing the smoke from my cigarette is still entering the house even though I am outside. What all of this is - is part of your process, part of YOUR journey, dear one... Stay in the moment and stop worrying about 'what if' as what if has not happened and there is no way to control what if... The power is in the moment, not in the future or the past... Just hold on tight, relax and get your quit grounded! What's most important is that you are focused on yout quit and you are not side-tracked... If you are all over the place, well - you don't want to lose your quit, my friend!! Blessings and have fun!!
