:)Thank You both for your response! I was diagnosed with GAD about 10 yrs ago and have been in therapy ever since. The numbness started about 3 yrs ago and I think I fear that part of my symptoms the most! I'm so glad that I can talk about it on here without feeling like I'm crazy! Thanks again:)

I am not going to diagnose your symptoms, but it sounds like you are experiencing a panic attack. Panic attacks are typically characterised by heightened anxiety causing you to overbreathe. Basically your bodies natural flight or fight response to anxiety. If you then misinterpret these symptoms (its called misattribution) it will further increases your anxiety, and often result in hyperventilation, which will cause the types of symptoms you are referring to. Its a very common experience for those of us who have panic disorder, and if you are getting these regularly I suspect you may have developed panic disorder rather than just GAD. In short reading some of the info on this site about panic attacks, the cause and ways of dealing with them. A therapist can help you with psychotheraphy and cognitive behavioural therapy, and a GP can prescribe a variety of medications to assist you with this type of problem. Its always best to get it diagnosed by a professional - self diagnosis is really dangerous. There are however some wonderful programs you can do yourself, typically called Self Mastery Therapy/Training which help immensely in recovery from panic disorder.

Hi there, your not alone...I have all that. and it feels like its going to become to much to handle. It scares the hell out of me. My arms and legs got so tight that I feel like I can't walk. Of course I can walk its just the feeling.

When I start to feel anxious, my neck and shoulders tighten and if it gets bad, my lips go numb and my fingers, then afterwards I am so twitchy I can't sit still? My symptoms vary so much I feel like a crazy woman! I feel like they go beyond what I can deal with. Palpitations and shortness of breath are scary, but they feel familiar, like I know they are panic symptoms, but the other stuff just feels so weird. I also experience de-realization. It scares me. Anyone experience this?
