Acid Reflux and attacks

20 years ago 0 16 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi, Ask your Doc for a PPI like protonix or Nexium. My doc prescribed one for me and it worked wonders. Lay off the caffiene and smoking too if you are having acid problems. Even decaf coffee can irritate your stomach. Soda pop (even ones without caffiene) can make your acidy too. I am off the Protonix for my stomach and with out caffiene in my diet except in small amounts I am fine.

It would hurt to switch to decaf on your coffee. But definitely slow down on your eating, it will help your digestive system, also about 30 mins after eating, if you can take a walk or some type of light exercise for about 15-20 mins would improve these symptoms.

This is exact same symptoms i am having since the beginning of April. It seems to be happening almost every night now after dinner. I am 57+ and have menopause symptoms for years now. I do not smoke. I have only 2 cups coffee in a.m. I drink lemon water in day. I like a glass of wine or 2 in evening. I like spicy food. Most of our food we grow, including beef, as we try to avoid hormones, chemicals, and preservatives. I do tend to eat fast as its usually late, then i sit and watch tv before going to sleep. Is this what is doing it, besides i am an emotional person as well as a worrier?(more so now with mid-life) The "panic attacks" are scary and seem to be getting worse.

Venik, I think you are on to something. Everytime I start to have one of these attacks, heartburn immediately follows. I've explained this to my doctor, and she told me that the acids could be near that general vacinity and are acting up my heart. I use rolaids or Mylanta 3 or 4 times a day. Ironically if my stomach is acting up, I pop a couple antacids and sometimes the attacks lighten up a bit.

I think the acid reflux is part of this thing that has us all jumping (as you all know, I call the panic and axiety this thing) Just get upset and burp and wow, the burning is terrible. Ca;;;oe

this is a big time topic that heartburnhelp.com has talked about in there message board they have a message board for gerd and anxiety its pretty neat..anyways i have gerd i belive the anxiety can defintley mess it up its like i worry about my heart the acid gets better, than i worry about acid, and dont feel the heart rlated problems..truth is they mimic each other its good to get the test done, ekg etc,but gerd/acid is a demon in its self smoking caffine are bad i had to quit both also alcohol to,which sucks cause im 24 lol..read up on these topics ive educated myself well amost to good where i think i might have stomach cancer or esphageal cancer from the acid..the truth is to be calm i belive they have link stomach repitory the heart all play with anxiety...

hi there it,s so strange that you posted this yesterday..and i went to the doc just yeasterday to reconfirm thats its just indigestion and acidity and not a heart problem...the last week was hectic for me..travelling too much, irregular timings for food,i was living off tea and sandwhiches whereever i could grab one..the result..major attacks for 3 days..i finally had to go the doc..and as usual she,s given me a course of antaacid and i,m already better today..acidity has the capacity to make one feel nausea, give chest pains, block the ears..and hence frighten us and start the attacks all over again...and acidity only happens when we have indigestion due to bad lifestyles...hope this helped..love sanju

This usually happens to me a few hours after I eat. It really can get me going. I know my heart is sound because I've had all the tests done, but sometimes I still get that "feeling". I really dislike teh fact that indigestion can feel like a heart attack :)

Dear CC, Do you suffer from situational panic attacks? Have you had a panic attack before while eating? If you are predispoed to it while eating, try and eat slowly and carefully. There is a sister site to the PC, www.depressioncenter.net This may help you with your depression, take a look. Let me know, Susanne
