Lainey, I have been reading those posts too and it makes you realize just how hard this addiction is. Thanks for the inspiration we all need it. :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 21 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 428 Amount Saved: $136.5 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 23 Mins: 28 Seconds: 59

It's been very disheartening to see some members trip, and I found it very difficult to read their posts the past few days. I was wondering how the newbies would feel reading those posts. Anyway, I guess the lesson learned is to be as prepared as is humanly possible. This is a very difficult process. Do your homework upfront and it may save you later on! I ran across this inspirational note this morning: "Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up! Figure out how to climb it, go thru it, or work around it." Michael Jordan "Life is full of choices, choose the best" :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 934 Amount Saved: $390.35 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 12 Mins: 23 Seconds: 7

Hi Penquin, I am glad that you are back. I guess I opened a can of worms with my comment. Yes, I found it difficult to read the posts, but NOT because they shouldn't be here, I found it difficult because I have been there more times than enough and I felt the panic, the pain and those feelings were perhaps a little too real or too much of a reminder of my own failures. I know how to handle my own failures, but am finding it hard to help thru a computer screen. How do I try to pull someone else along when I am on a tightrope? I guess that will be part of my learning experience here. Thanks for the insights. We have to be here for each other. Each person's quit is different and when a member suffers a relapse it is the rest of us who must help that member through the situation - making all of us stronger. Don't let their slips dishearten you- they arent you! Your quit is your own- you have 100% control over how it ends, remember that- 100%! it is all up to you. Let the tribulations of others add to your wisdom about the evils of this addiction, not weaken your resolve. You are doing fabulously, you are not going to slip, remember that, you have come to far! Congratulations on your upcoming milestone, 40 days is commendable! NOPE- YOU are in control, not nicodemon! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 185 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,043 Amount Saved: $654.9 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 6 Mins: 41 Seconds: 20

Lainey I liked your post! It's good to talk about these things. As much as it is disheartening to read that someone has failed, it is even more disheartening for that person to have to post about it. I suppose that the slippers and relapsers could just go away, never post again...but my fear is that if we do not support and encourage those people through their relapse, that they may never, ever try to quit again. That would be the pity. I have been on the SSC for quite awhile, as you can see by my join date. I have had 3 or 4 relapses now, and everytime I come and post, but I also come back and continue to try to make it work. Not an easy feat either, I must tell you. Speaks a great deal about my desire. While it is difficult for some to read about these relapses, it is my hope that by posting about my struggles and repeated attempts that it may help someone to make another attempt, to stay here and learn more, and keep doing it until they are successful. With each attempt I have made I have learned a great deal about how I need to deal with things in the future, and I am thankful for the support here, otherwise....I may say....I'M NOT QUITTING...IT'S JUST TOO HARD. Yes, it is hard, but I know it is the right choice and I believe it is possible to be free. Thank you guys, for helping me see things thru your eyes, and for several different prospectives. Sometimes I am too one-tracked! Thank you Lookingglass and Freemom for the compliments. I greatly appreciated them! I wanted to spend more time here today but was busy at work so could only steal a few moments, which made for a long day. Thanks again. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 948 Amount Saved: $390.35 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 13 Mins: 56 Seconds: 28
