Jean, Do the flush. There is much more addictive stuff in cigarettes (that they added on purpose) to get rid of than just nicotine. When the surgeon general first came out with the warnings (I think the 70's)....people were quiting. The cigarette companies didn't like that so they had their chemists come up with substances to make the cigarettes more addicting. They added some 40 chemicals to get the job done. One of them is cyanide. They found out that cyanide is very addictive..(but it kills youtoo-)...so they added just enough to add a little more addiction to the weed!! I read... that is why it takes longer to get un-addicted now... then years ago. Rusty, I liked your science lesson. I was so thirsty those first few weeks, I couldn't drink enough water, and constantly felt like I was floating. I was wondering the other day, why I was so thirsty then, and am not anymore. More science lessons, please, Rusty? It's interesting to look up water on the mayoclinic site and other places. You get an understanding of how water benefits your system. As your kidneys and liver filter impurities and toxins, the water carries them out through your sweat and well...the other ways. lol They estimate that you "eliminate" 2 liters a day, so that's why you should drink two liters a day. And that's your science lesson for today! :p Rusty :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/13/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 845 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 23,680 Amount Saved: $2957.5 Life Gained: Days: 117 Hrs: 16 Mins: 2 Seconds: 36

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

I just didn't know Danielle if water and/or other fluids would flush out the nicotine in my body while on the patch. I thought that because it's a different way of receiving nicotine (via the patch) that the fluids may be able to flush out the nicotine from smoking prior to the quit. Yes Pam, re the other chemicals - like 4,000 of them? Well if the fluids/water/juice help with ridding my body of those than I'm sticking to my plan of taking as much fluids in as possible. Thanks a lot for your input. Jean, There are many other chemicals in cigarettes besides nicotine that your body IS getting rid of right now and water will still help flush those things out. Plus, water (or any beverage) helps with cravings because of the hand/mouth motion, which is one reason why a lot of quitters tend to eat more when they quit... they want to keep their hands and mouths busy, but water doesn't add any calories, so it's not putting any extra weight on. Fruit juice is also good when first quitting because our blood/sugar levels tend to drop when we first quit, and that can cause increased cravings, so drinking fruit juices can help keep the blood/sugar levels up, even if you're not diabetic. So anyway, that's just another tip. Congrats on 3 days! Way to go! Crave the Quit!
