Hi Jen,
As they say, on SSRIs you will normally either lose or gain weight
during the initial stages. There are some metabolic things going on
and also its how you react to anxiety. It can even be a reaction to
feeling better, depending on how you felt before.
Its common with SSRIs, especially prozac and zoloft (though some
people get it on luvox and paxil and pretty much any ssri) to get the
jitters. This feeling can make people extremely anxious and
sometimes it also comes with nausea or a general loss of apetite.
This symptom normally goes within 4-6 weeks, but you might want to
talk with your doc if it doesnt go soon. Some people just dont suit a
particular ssri, and in those cases the dr will normally change you over
to another type.
I wish I had your problems, but it seems whenever I am on medications I gain a great deal of weight. I wish they would figure out what causes the weight gains and losses, and maybe help us out more on that score! Perhaps there are a lot of variables. When I am feeling more content with my life and less anxious, I tend to eat more! It's like I want to treat myself more and can't stop eating! Help!!!!
Hi Jen maybe it's not the meds that are making you lose weight but just the whole anxiety thing? I have trouble eating because of the bad stomach problems I have with anxiety. I've been eating alot better now but I'm still waiting for the weight to come back on(I only weigh 100pds 5'3 in)I know it'll take time but it will happen hope this helps
Any advice on what to do about losing weight, started Prozac about a month ago and have probably lost from anywhere from 5 to 10 pounds, was on paxil before and never had the problem but I seem shaky on prozac, what should I do? Any suggestions
