Chantix...Day 1

17 years ago 0 12 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi guys! I'm a first time user to this site and also a Chantix user. So far so good, been smoke free for 4 days. Chantix up to this point has been extremely helpful...but, day 5 when I started the 2 mg a day made me really sick. My stomache hurt and I got a huge headache. Has anybody else had this happen to them?

Angela, Congratulations! You can do it. You will be surprised how much better you will feel. I also am taking Chantix and it does work, but you still must have the will. Angela, I just quit today. I'm sitting here grimly chewing my nicotine gum and craving a cig. I stopped because I want more than anything to just stop having to plan my whole day/life around where my cigarettes are, when I can smoke one, Where I can smoke one etc etc. So why am I so desperately afraid? I think I smoked for years to thumb my nose at my husband's very snooty upright family. To prove I wasn't one of them. The point is though, even if I quit the cigs I'll still be me. Hey, that was a great revelation actually! I can still thumb my nose just by being non-bigoted and tolerant, what the hell are the cigarettes for?

Hi Angela, Welcome and congratulations on making the decision to quit smoking. I'm so happy that you're here. It is sooo normal to have that fear of quitting. I had it too and I felt like I was losing my buddy/companion. That's the addict talking just like it was with the rest of us. You are intelligent and you know that a cigarette is no friend to you at all. For me too was that I don't like change very much at all. So, the lifestyle change made me fear quitting as well. But I'm so happy that I did and you will be too. I promise. Keep posting/reading and stay close to this site when you can. We're here for you and will help you all that we can. Hi Angela, Welcome aboard! Your fear is very common and totally normal. Whether you realize it or not, smoking is a big part of your everyday. It's part of your routines, it's part of how you entertain yourself, it's part of how you cope. It may seem daunting to cut it out of all these areas in your life but it's quite doable, all our members have done it or are on their way. Take the time to work through the online quit program. It will give you a better idea of the place cigarettes have in your life now and help you plan out strategies to overcome this addiction. Also be sure to read through our forums. You'll learn a lot of strategies that will help you along. Our members and our support team are also more than happy to answer any questions. Keep close. You don't have to this alone. We are here to support, guide and cheer you on! Danielle ____________________ The SSC Support Team

So happy to have you join us! I was also a Chantix quitter. I smoked for 34 years, 3 packs a day! As you can see, it CAN be done!!!!! Best to quit now, before it's too late. I, myself, waited until a diagnosis of COPD to quit. Wish I would have quit long ago---better yet, wish I had NEVER smoked. Live and learn. Live and learn. Keep the quit! Hi Angela, Welcome to the site. We all understand the fear. Even after some events that have happened during my quit, I still feel that the hardest moment was that last cigarette. The Chantix will help, but as everyone says, it still takes effort from you to work through the triggers. You can do this and we are here for you. Hi Angela, I am another chantix user, and yes, fear is a part of the quit. It's a journey that is uphill and difficult sometimes, but coasting downhill when you can is very rejuvenating! Read, post, and get through the first few days...hour by hour, minute by minute, second by second, whatever it takes. By the end of that time you will recognize the strength you have to continue your quit. Stick around, we are getting really good at helping. Look what we have done for Bear!!
