My quit date is getting much closer. I have started having the weird dreams on the Chantix.. nothing I can't handle though. It has been a very busy weekend and I haven't been able to check in here as often as I do during the week. But, I can see as to where this site is gonna be a key role in my quit!

Hi lou P Lou I just wanted to see how your doing?? We are all here for you anytime you need. As for work try picking up a book with crossword puzzles or something to occupy the mind and the hands. I have internet at work so I sign on and read but anything to keep you busy helps. Try walking in the opposite direction of the smokers which will also help with the weight. I lost quite a bit of weight before I quit and I am gaining again with all the gum and sweets but I know I can lose the weight. I can't afford another asthma attack let alone the medical bills that follow. I won my battle with cervical cancer and you know as well as me that it wasn't easy!! This is the best decision of your life and I'm here anytime you need. Believe me it works. My insurance didn't cover the Chantix so I'm using the patch and doing wonderful. I've heard great things about Chantix so stay strong and let everyone at work know that you quit and could use the support. I did and everyone helped me out even when I couldn't stop crying. I can laugh at it now and soon you will too STAY STRONG!!! Welcome to the group, I think the asthma attack might have been a warning to you of what it could be like with lung cancer. Just a thought. It sounds like you have real good reasons to quit smoking. I also quit smoking using Chantix. It makes it so much easier. You are not all stressed out at all. Even if the insurance doesn't cover it you will save in the long run by buying the Chantix verses the Cigarettes. You can do this, it is not easy but Cancer is worse. It can be done. I missed yeserday, it was my son's birthday and after work/school we went out to eat and birhtday shopping. I am just amazed at the amount of replies here! Thank you all so very much! My insurance doesn't cover the Chantix either.. that was a hard blow, but I decided to go ahead and get it and give it a shot. So, rewards will be difficult for me also. But, sounds like it is very important to everyone's quit, so I will try to do a little something. I don't have internet access at work.. wish I did. I am sure that it would make it easier during those break times. Thank you all so very much, with each passing day I feel I am more ready, which is good seeing as my quit date is getting close!

Hi Lou. I also had cervical cancer but mine was way back in 1989. I have had a few close calls over the years but it didn't scare me enough to quit smoking at that time. Sad isn't it? It took a new bone and new tissue in my back to make me see the light. I'm pretty sure my age has something to do with it to. :) Good luck to you. It's a hard road but one worth traveling. Hi Lou and welcome. I am also new to this forum, even though I have quit now for just over a month. It is so helpful and people are wonderful. I have smoked for 43 years and have quit a few times in the past. Only because I thought I should and NOT because I wanted to which is why I think I have more successful this time. I am also taking Chantix and I think it's the best thing next to Dove Bars, but the will must also be there. I can remember when the thought of being without the cigs was devestating. Now I am at a point where I think that being with them is devestating. Yes, it can be rough at times, but keep plugging and it WILL work. Rewarding yourself is really important. My insurance does not cover the Chantix so I don't save as much money as I would like but feel that is only temporary. However, I do, at least once a week, go to the supermarket and buy myself a bunch of those pretty cut flowers for about $8.00. When I am home and feel like giving in, I make sure I run in the kitchen and sit and look at the flowers and it does pass. I guess everyone handles this differently, but it works for me. So Lou, again welcome and good luck. Hang in there. It willl work!!! Heya Lou, Welcome and congratulations on your decision to quit smoking. You've come to the right place for support and encouragment. Drink lot & lots of water; have hard candy, gum, sunflower seeds, etc. on hand to keep your hands and mouth busy; avoid triggers (those places/things that you associate with smoking) at the beginning of your quit; If you can't avoid a trigger then change it up i.e. rearrange your desk, carry twizzlers or sunflower seeds with you when you drive, etc.; the workbook over to the left is so helpful and you really should work through it; read a lot, post a lot, and ask all of the questions you want or need to. You CAN do this and we're here to help you each step of the way. Hang in there it will get better. I have been taking Chantix for a few weeks and love it. Sunday I put out a smoke that I just lit and havn't had one since. There are a few side effect that I'm sure your doctor covered, but they are not that bad. Just remember there is a lot of support here anytime you need it.
