It's a very tough morning

Heya Porky, I've been trying to find you and haven't been able to find a thread that you've posted. Finally found one. You really are doing a great job Porky. I'm so proud of you. I know it's hard and not being able to move around much plus your husband smoking is making your quit even harder. But you can still do it. Is your husband still smoking in the main living area or in the room where you're recovering? He can't be smoking around you because the second hand smoke may have a bad effect on the new tissue and bone. Call your doctor and ask him about that. I'll bet you dollars to donuts that he will tell you that your husband is NOT suppose to be smoking around you....Then I'll bet you that your doctor will talk to you husband about the second hand smoke and your health and healing process. Porky, this is YOUR quit but damn, it's YOUR LIFE here. Your quit will improve the quality of your life but you need to get that second hand smoke away from you so that your surgery wasn't all for nothing, your back will heal, and you can live without that constant pain. You have TWO issues to deal with here. Your quit and your back recovery. It's hard but you can do this. If it were me, my quit, and my back....even if it meant staying with someone in my family who doesn't smoke while I recovered and grew new tissue and bone, I'd do it. If my husband wouldn't take the smoking outside, I sure would have to stay elsewhere to heal. That's just me because I'm not a big fan of pain so I'd avoid it anyway I could. I think the Gameboy idea is a great one. Shoot, I'll even try that to use as a distraction. If you can quilt, you really should start making things. I wish I could quilt but never learned how. Do you have your own bedroom that you're recovering in....away from your husband? I don't know how you have everything set up. If you are in a bedroom with a Tv and Dvd player, you should even sign up for Netflix so you can get lost in a good movie. And you wouldn't have to get out to drive back and forth to the video store. Let's see what else......If your pictures aren't too hard to get to, sort through them, and get them ready to scan and burn to Cd so that they won't fade anymore. Give yourself a manicure. Heck, my fingernails are super sh

Get lots of gum too, all different flavors so you can switch around. I found a bag of those roasted peanuts in the shell at Wal-Mart and I love them. I'm not a big peanut fan but I love these in the shell. They're already roasted and salted. AND, it give you something to with your hand plus, they're healthy. Sunflower seeds are too. Oh, I eat Twizzlers too. Remember those? The licorice (Sp?). Of course, I get the strawberry flavored and not the black. Everything I get has to be sugar free since I'm diabetic. If you buy sugar free, be careful because it makes you f@rt like 550 lb. man if you eat too much. Believe me, I know!!! ha ha ha ha See Porky, we're sort of in the same boat here. You have to quit for your back to recover the way it should. I have to quit because diabetes and smoking....not a good mix. Plus, we both want to quit because I like breathing easier and not coughing, don't you? LOL This is feeling good. The cravings don't but breathe in real deep right now and you'll see a difference. Girl, I need to check my quit meter. I've only got one day on you and look at how many cigarettes I haven't smoked and how many you haven't smoked. Surely I didn't smoke that many cigarettes. How many did you smoke a day? I thought we were about the same. I've been waiting for you Porky!! I've been really concerned for you. Girl, you are NOT worthless. You are recovering, that's all. Do you have a digital camera? Take pictures of those pretty pillows that you make and sell them on E-Bay. You are not worthless. Someone with that kind of creative talent can draw an income without a problem. Your husband really doesn't want you to quit? He's right that you have too much stress on you right now but, being around cigarette smoke while the tissue and bone are healing in your back is adding to your stress. It's so important that you quit. Back pain is horrible and you've been through the ringer with your back. I would be so stressed out until I found out that the tissue and bone were growing back nicely. That's what your husband should be concerned about. It's no skin off of his nose that you're quitting. You know, smokers are so frowned on now and they really are in the minority that your husband may just want your company in smoking....So he won't be the outcast. Does that make sense? Do you have candles all around the house? If not, go to Wal-Mart when you can and the best candles I found that smell so, so good are Mainstays (that's the brand) Hazelnut Cream. They make your house smell so, so good and they're inexpensive. Oh, and spray the carpets with that leave on carpet deodorizer. Mask the smell of smoke as much as you can. You can even spray the furniture and curtains with that leave on carpet deodorizer. You get it a Wal-Mart too. You don't have to vacuum it up because it's a foam that dries. It smells really good too. As soon as your husband walks out the door, turn on ceiling fans. It may be too cold where you are to do that. I'm in Texas so the temps are warming up. I opened all of the windows and turned on the ceiling fans for the first time yesterday. Have the room that you go into when your husband smokes as fresh, clean, and smoke free as you can. Keep the door closed during the day and have your candles in there. Can you nap in there if you have to? You do have a bed in that room right or is it your computer room? Please don't cave in, okay? Your quit is tough and it does have to be approached in a different way because it is so unique.....and so h

Hi Porky, I'm so glad you were able to get out of the house today. Are you feeling better now? I want to be the first to congratulate you on getting through Hell Week!! Yee Hah!!! You're right there going into your 7th day and you'll make it through. You've gone cold turkey, right? Me too. Nicotine is suppose to be out of our systems in 72 hours. Are you having cravings tonight? ha ha ha ha I am. Good Morning Porky, I hope you're feeling better today. We're right there together on our quit date so I know how you're feeling....to a point. It's worse on you right now because of your back. But, as far as cravings go.....UGH!! I'm like you, I'm wondering what's up with that 3 day thing. ha ha ha It sure feels like the nicotine is still in my system and is causing these terrible cravings. This morning, they're bad, bad, bad. Actually, the cravings have been right here ever since I quit with a break now and then. But after thinking back over the last 9 days, I've HAD cravings a lot more than I haven't. We have a home based business so yesterday, I got all of my work done and then had to lay on the couch and sleep for a long time. I felt exhausted and was sick of dealing with cravings. I really believe these cravings wear us out mentally, emotionally, and physically. This morning, I'm so crabby and as soon as I woke up, I thought about a cigarette. Then I thought, "Oh yea, I don't smoke anymore." Then I was a little disappointed because I knew the battle was about to start to resist those cravings. I don't want to give up or give in but, I sure would like a break and I know you would too. Wouldn't it be great to wake up and not think about a cigarette at all? When you get time, let me know how you're doing today. I sure hope you've caught a break. Peace of mind sounds so good, doesn't it? Terri, I still want one too!!!! If this weren't such a pain in the butt it'd be funny. I just got off of the phone with Sprint and after talking to a computer over the phone, then being on hold for almost 10 minutes, and then finally talking to a customer service guy, I am really craving bad. And, I'm real crabby. I still don't know what the heck that guy at Sprint was telling me either. This is NOT a good day to have to deal with people about business crap. Do you know what? I believe I could handle this better if the only symptom of quitting was a raging case of inflamed hemorrhoids. HA HA HA It wouldn't be near the pain in the butt. We'll hang in there together and yes, it sure does help to talk to someone who's going through this with me. I think we're still craving so bad too because we smoked so much. I feel like writing a strongly worded letter to the high school pal that got me started. ha ha ha One day at a time, right? Ugh!!! Porky, I feel for you. You can do this even with your husband smoking. He is being inconsiderate by leaving smokes around and smoking in front of you. At least my husband only smokes in one room downstairs with an exaust fan going. Can you talk to him about it? Or is he a ,what would you call it. Not mad but unhappy that you quit. My mother-in-law is one. She will not even act like I quit smoking. She just ignores it. I know she is mad but tooooooooo bad. I am proud of quitting. If they are smoking it's because they don't have the guts to fight the habit. Good luck and keep in touch Jnine My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 42 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 857 Amount Saved: $115.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 14 Mins: 27 Seconds: 46

:) Hi Terri, Stay cheerful...all of this will pass and as I read on another thread somewhere..."This will be one of those Important Milestones in your life"...a time you won't forget! Do you have a relative or friend that perhaps could drive you? Are you sure about driving right now? Shopping certainly can improve moods sometimes, but with pain meds...driving can be dangerous. Are you Ok'd by the doc to drive? The reason I brought it up was because my husband did have an accident in a very similar situation. You can be charged being the fault of the accident simply because you are under the influence, "Regardless of whether ...you caused it or Not". I believe fresh air, a..little activity, and socializing some are wonderful therapies for everything you are going through right now. ...and you DO NEED to get "COMBAT GEAR" fighting the addiction and boredom being laid up you will need amo and lots of it gum, peanuts, craft items...WHATEVER IT TAKES!!!! Hang in there Terri, we are all plugging for you. auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 55 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,771 Amount Saved: $261.25 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 15 Mins: 0 Seconds: 1

Terri, Protect your quit like a mother protects a newborn infant! I know this may sound silly but, I played my son's gameboy like a gaming fiend early in my quit. I can only figure that it was a mindless distraction that required the use of my hands and eyes. I also curled up under the covers and slept when things got really tough. I'm not sure what you will be able to do with your recent surgery but reading was not a real option for me, my attention span was very small. That has improved with time. I'm not sure I've helped but I'm sending strength your way today! And if all else fails, grab an umbrella and enjoy a short walk!!!!!Stay strong and I hope to hear from you later! You may want to console yourself by smoking. Do big deep breathing. My hubby smoked also. It can be done.
