My mom had one put in about 20 years ago....she's going strong at almost 90 and has traveled all over the world with pacemaker intact.
Good thing you quit smoking already....much better for you with the anaesthesia....and just think...during surgery it will be a few hours of not thinking about smoking
I have added you to my prayer list.

I am 14 days free from smoking, I haven't posted much because I have had a lot on my mind. Tuesday the 24th I am going into the hospital to have a pacemaker put in, I am very scared. My heart problem wasn't caused by my smoking but I am sure it didn't help it any. I have a very low heart rate, it isn't something that came on recently I was born with it. It has just got to the point where without the pacemaker I can't work or lead a normal life. Thank You for all the support on this site, it has helped me a lot. Right now I could really use your prayers and advice to pep me up and get through this fear.

Dawya,
You are in a lot of peoples prayers. It is late Tuesday, so I am sure that you are out of surgery and doing great. We hope to hear from you soon.
