misha, What mg patch are you one. Perhaps you need a higher dose one and then follow the directions and wean down during your quit. Also... are you craving mentally....like feeling sorry for yourself because you want one.... or is it physical ... like stomach cramps...jitters etc. Hang in there. Each day gets better. Take one minute at a time. Do something to distract yourself. Watch a movie and escape. Give your brain a rest from it for awhile. We are here for you. Misha, Here are the breathing and tension exercises for you to work on. Please give it a try. It really does work. I will also, because I'm a loving, caring and thoughtful kind of gal, loan you my husband to smack around. ;p Deep Breathing: 1) Take a slow deep breath in through your nose to the slow count of five. Push your tummy out at the same time. 2) Slowly breathe out through your mouth to the count of 7. 3) Repeat this 3 times, as you feel yourself relaxing and the stress dropping away. Tension Releasing: 1) Let go of the tension in your neck and shoulders. 2) Let go of the tension in your jaw. 3) Focus completely on your breathing, nothing else. 4) As you exhale, let your shoulders drop and let your body sink into wherever you are. 5)Repeat this until you feel relaxed and centered. *It's a skill. You may want to practice several times a day to make it a normal part of your routine. Misha, Listen to Freemom too. Absolutely b**ch that craving/withdrawal out!! Target the nicodemon with your anger and let him have it. Say whatever you want to say to him, make up some tuff sounding stuff, and holler at him. That may sound silly but believe me, it works. It helps you to release that anger and stress that you're feeling right now. Look, you've got TWO HUGE days behind you and believe me, they are HUGE. Get through Day 3 and you'll see that it does get easier. Keep posting.....VENT all you want to.....Just don't smoke. Okay? Drink that water...lots of water; get up and move around with each craving i.e. wash your hair, clean something, put on some music and dance all over the house; go for a walk, etc.....just move so your mind won't be on smoking; I'll post the breathing exercises for you and try them because they really help; chew gum, toothpicks, hard candy, sunflower seeds, straws, etc. to keep your hands and mouth occupied; keep posting/venting and read lots of post. The workbook really is a huge help. Avoid those triggers early on in your quit as much as possible. Keep talking to us. We understand what you're going through and we know you can do this. You CAN do this. The first three days are the worst but hey, you've just about got it whooped so hang in there. Okay? Hi Misha. We know what you are feeling is rough, at some point we've all been through it. But remember that those feelings are actually your body starting to heal itself from the toxic smoke you were putting into it. And also the inner junkie (often referred to as nicodemon :eg:) trying to dissuade you from taking away the prime source of nicotine. Lots of people swear by drinking ice water to help with cravings. Also, deep breathing. I like to tell that urge to STOP and GO AWAY because I'm not going to smoke anymore ... but that might not be as helpful at the stage your at. Though you could try it, couldn't hurt might help. Read, read and read more posts here for help and encouragement. Post when you need a hand to help hold you up. You can do this! Misha, You are going through what is referred to here at SSC as "Hell week". I promise, it does get so much better. Just hang in there and tough it out. I think for most, the first three days are the worst. You will begin to feel some relief very soon. Drink some cold water, do some breathing exercises, and DONT give up. I know you can do it. Hi Misha, Try taking several slow deep breaths, in and out. There are some breathing excercises in the program book, if you went thru it. Try some kind of distraction , a bubble bath or shower, a walk, motivational moviee. You see the theme here, something to do! Chew gum, have a tall glass of ice water! This WILL pass! The first couple of days are the worst and it does get better. Hang in there! Tell yourself this: Smoking is not an option, so I have to try something else, Not One Puff Ever! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,423 Amount Saved: $590.8 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 20 Mins: 58 Seconds: 12

I was doing ok the last couple of days. Even today I slept alot, felt very emotional and ditzy, now I just feel pissed off at the world. I am feelling ohhh soo negative, and wonder why I want to put myself through this kind of hell. I keep saying the reasons over and over, but I don't seem to be listening at all. I want to rip the patch off and put a smoke in my mouth. It seems the cravings never leave. I have smoked for a long long time, and I have tried to quit 3 other times. misha My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 73 Amount Saved: $23.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 7 Mins: 26 Seconds: 17

Misha, Hang in there. Your doctor is absolutely right. Smoking took up a big part of your life and it will take time & practice before you get use to not having it to occupy your time or to cope with. Keep utilizing your coping strategies and try to find new ways to occupy your time. We are cheering you on! Congrats on 1 week smoke free! Danielle ____________________ The SSC Support Team

Keep hanging in there Misha. It will get easier. In regards to Laughing's comment on the whining ... whine and yell at the nicodemon not at how you feel. And yes yell and scream about Philip Morris and the other tobacco companies. And then feel really, really good about the freedom you are gaining!
