keeping my meter

jnine, Glad to hear it was just the one... you had me scared there for a little bit! :8o: I think you should do whatever suits you best in regards to your meter... it's YOUR meter and nobody can tell you what to do with it. The important thing is that you're continuing on in the quit and are not giving up! Way to go! Crave the Quit! Jnine, whether you set your meter back or not doesn't mean a thing, as far as I'm concerned. All that matters is that you're continuing in your efforts to remain smoke-free. Quitting smoking is a process, and for 'most' people... relapse is a part of that process. MOST people who succeed in quitting, relapse at least once before finding long-term success. Usually more than once. For those people...relapse is part of the process that results in success. You don't need to satisfy anyone here that you mean business or that your efforts to quit smoking are sincere. You only need to satisfy yourself. But... you MUST be honest with yourself. Your life may depend on that. Resetting the meter is up to you. I had a cig and didn't set my meter back because I knew and planned for it to be only the one time under exhausting and extenuating circumstances that are not likely to be repeated. That was the only time and I did not feel threatened enough to set the quit meter back. Danielle is right. The meter is your motivational tool and you do what you thing is right for you. This comes from a member who joined 5/23/06, but who's quit date reads 8/9/06. You do the math. It took me two tries at Algebra I in High school and we won't talk about statistics in college! In addition, I had several slips and relapses along the way, but I feel very confident that this is THE quit of ALL quits! Not to say I am still not vulnerable...... Remember that you are either a smoker or not. There simply is no in-between! N.O.P.E. Jnine, Your meter is your motivational tool and we encourage you to choose the option that will motivate you the most. Do take the time to look back on your slip and learn from it. What will you do differently when in the same situation? Keep persevering! Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

Jnine, I think I'm confused... did you slip again? How many times have you "slipped" now? Please, don't take your quit this lightly! This slipping thing is a very slippery slope that leads right back into smoking full time. Believe me! I reset my meter after 132 days because it was my third slip and kept it there for 500 days until I finally decided to put it back on my original quit date... but it was reset for 500 days until I was SURE that I would not smoke again. I'm not saying that you should reset... honestly, the meter is the least of your concerns at this point. You need to get it straight in your head whether or not you want to stay quit or not. If you do, then you do NOT smoke under any circumstance. If you don't, then don't pretend to be quit. You're only hurting yourself if you do. Please, figure out what you will do the next time to prevent another incident. You can NOT keep doing this and still be quit! Crave the Quit! Hi all, I have decided NOT to turn back my meter. I have worked hard for this and it's not like I smoked a whole cig or more than a couple puffs. I would if I would have begged a cig from someone or had more than the couple of puffs. The next party I go to and I have to go there is no way out because I am the cook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think there would be some unhappy people if I didn't show up. I am taking some posts with me and pinning them on the walls. Maby it will slow down some of the rest of them. I do need support and I do need YOURS because I know that everyone not smoking really wants me to smoke because they do. I will make it this time I know it. I am going to read my posts and find someone I can call on my cell if I have to.
