Dj, fantastic quit. Great post Tom, i too lost a great quit, and as you can see im back at stage one. DJ, I have been checking zero for awhile now and I have the notion to smoke almost daily. The urgency behind the notion is nothing compared to the first 5 days after stopping. It's an annoyance more than anything now. Even as a notion I respect it and won't let my guard down. This is where I've failed in the past, where I am now. This annoying little "dig" that sucker punches you when you're vulnerable. Cravings as strong as day one that come up on you months after quitting usually on top of something else. A trigger that didn't occur to you because you so rarely come by it now is in your face demanding to be dealt with along with another stressful event you probably have less if any control over. The smoking part is easy to dispense, a pack of smokes and a lighter and that part, the part you have complete control of , is no longer a player and you can devote your energy to that which you likely have little control of. The strength to change what you can, cope with what you can't and the wisdom to know what it is you're dealing with. I have a plan ready to get me through this when it comes and I fully expect it any day. I have a stock of life savers and mints and I won't allow myself to get arrogant in thinking I've arrived and it's all behind me. I check the zero but that doesn't denote the amount of energy and thought I'm putting into this. I have a 45 day old quit now and I've had a 382 day quit that I lost to a situation I summarized above. It was a pointless sacrifice and it took me years to get back to the point where I could be successful at quitting again. You have a 100+ day quit and it's no zero. It certainly wasn't zero effort that got you there and it won't be zero effort in getting another 100+ days. The skills we're building now will help us stay smoke free for the rest of our lives, zero smoking. DJ, Good question! I've been checking zero for a while now! Now, don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean I don't have crappy days when I'd love to just smack someone right upside the head! Those days just keep on coming but I no longer think that a cigarette will make my day better. I've worked the program here on the SSC and it has allowed me to come up with other coping mechanisms and I've practiced those on a daily basis. I guess it's almost like reprogramming your brain. Keep pushing through those craves or thoughts and you will reach a zero! I promise with all my heart! I never dreamed it would be possible but it definitely is! Stay strong! Hey Dj, Nice stats! Since about the 6th of April or so, I have checked zero cravings. I don't really have cravings. I sometimes have a bad mood or anxiety, but not where I am "needing" or thinking that I need a fix. Its definitely doable. I have not smoked for 100+ days. When i do my craving diary I have never checked zero most of the time I check 1. Do you ever check zero or will you always have a mild craving? I'm at 553 days and there are still moments when I think I want a cigarette, but they are few and far between, and the cravings disappear more and more quickly. Just don't give up and hang in there!
