Weaning off chantix/Halfing the dosage?

star, you might do fine ending sooner, but maybe you want to think about the money you would have been spending smoking probably adds up to about what the chantix costs. I had the same concerns, but decided to go the full 12 weeks just to give myself that extra time to get my quit solid. Whatever you decide, you'll get support, it's just something to think about. i decided when i started taking it that i would go the 12 week program. well, i am almost at the end of the 8th week and it seems like i may not be able to get the last month due to financial difficulties...so i have started to wean myself down yesterday just in case..taking 1 pill in the morning. so far it hasn't been too bad at all. i have kept myself busy and when i'm not i'm sleeping. if i can't get the last month at least i will have gone about 7 days cutting down...i think thats better than stopping all at once. i'll keep you posted. I stopped taking Chantix 6 days ago and seem to be doing o.k. at first I went down to just one pill in the morning then to one every other day. The first time I went to every other day I really really craved so I went back to one a day for two more weeks and then tried one every other day again, second try worked. I did that for a week and then totally stopped. The important thing is your quit so if you are not comfortable cutting back or stopping wait until you are, every one will react differently I am sure. Hope this information will help some one else. Glad to see you again, too, Ima! Glad you were able to come off the chantix so easily. You're doing fabulously. That great attitude helps a lot :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 215 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,600 Amount Saved: $1,462.00 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 0 Mins: 43 Seconds: 52

Glad you bumped this Aloha (I've missed you btw!) -- I actually went off my Chantix 2 weeks ago. I was having dreams that would give my priest a heart attack and I was feeling fine - I have had a few sad mopey moments, but for the most part I have no problems. I DID call my doctor and he said to hang on to those 4 boxes just in case but if I felt strong enough to go for it. Good luck all! Hello All, It is my 7 week on this quit and Chantix has truly help me. I too have thought of how to ween myself off Chantix because you just can't stay on it forever. So about 3 weeks ago I went to 1 pill a day and I have been doing just fine with it. I think in two weeks I will try to do 1 pill every other day and see how that works. I hope to extend the days out so much between pills that finally I will not need Chantix at all. But I just have to see. Right now 1 pill a day does me find and I just have to take the rest of the steps one day at a time. star i think it's good to think about the weaning process, since it addresses the neurotransmitter thing. Good to have tackled some of the other triggers. It all can be done no matter what, but chantix does help adjust the dopamine thing My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 201 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,040 Amount Saved: $1,366.80 Life Gained: Days: 28 Hrs: 0 Mins: 26 Seconds: 22

thanks for the bump aloha. the thoughts have crossed my mind about how/when i will be stopping the chantix. i just started week 7 on it and i think i'm going to do the whole 12 weeks just to be on the safe side. i like the idea of tapering off of it a little at a time... from reading all the posts there was a alot of success doing it that way. i'm going to be giving this alot of thought, especially since in the past i have lost quits after stopping the NRT all at once. the chantix is working great for me and i will do anything to give me a better chance at keeping my quit. thanks for the insight and i'll let you know how it goes My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 43 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,720 Amount Saved: $279.50 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 12 Mins: 7 Seconds: 18
