Iskarboe, Welcome.... this is a good place to be. Take a look at us. We are all doing it one day at a time. It is so very do-able. Really. Your body doesn't need smoke to breath in and out to live. It just needs air. Put a plan into place. Have solid reasons. Be glad you are quiting. Make it a happy thing. I'm sorry about your husbands death. Iskarboe, I'm very sorry for your loss and I know you have to be shaken up. Don't be afraid for youself because you've made a wonderful decision to quit. You CAN do this and we're all here to help you. Get yourself prepared. See the tools over to the left, really use them because they help so much. The workbook is very helpful. 1. Get rid of all cigarettes and ashtrays. 2. Drink lots and lots of water...It helps with cravings and flushes the poisons out of your system. LOTS of water. 3. Have hard candy, gum, sunflower seeds, toothpicks, etc. to keep your hands and mouth busy. 4. Make a list of reasons why you want to quit smoking....this really helps. 5. Think of some things you can do during a craving like wash your hair, clean something in the house, take a quick walk, read, etc. You need to be busy during those cravings. 6. Real a lot of posts, especially the older posts, on this site and you post a lot yourself. Ask as many questions as you need, vent all you want, etc. We're here to help you all of the way. This is a great site with some real fine people. They've had my back since February 18th. Welcome and congratulations on making one of the most important decisions of your life. There is a great deal of help here... what you need is the commitment to stay quit... The focus to stay with your commitment... Take a look at the program on the left, and spend as much time as possible here - reading and reading and reading more, especially old posts... I lost one of my best friends to lung cancer not long ago - she is my rock even today, and my commitment has her behind it. Ask yourself if your desire to quit is stronger than your desire to smoke? Start there, my friend... Stay close, read and read - and post often. This is one tough journey...and we are all doing it one step at a time.
