nsgirl, Withdrawal symptoms are different for everyone. You are most likely crying because your body is so confused- being deprived without notice of the drug you doused it with for 19 years. Please be strong- they really really will get better but quitting, especially cold turkey (which I also employed, and have been successful thus far), is NOT for the faint of heart. You are in the middle of world war 3- You fighting against Nic and it is not going to be easy but I promise it WILL be worth it. You have several very good reasons to do this- my goodness an oxygen tank on a 30 year old mother of 2 (very small children I must add) is not somehting anyone wants!! Hold on to your quit, the worst will pass within 72 hours of quitting as the nicotine evaporates from your body. Think of your quit like a snowball rolling down a hill, geting bigger and stronger until it can crush any temptation like a bug. Protect it. If you need anything, we are here to help you- we all want to see each other succeed. Also, emphysema will stop progressing once you stop smoking right?? nsgirl, You have made one of the best decisions you'll ever make in your life. To stop smoking. Invest the time and effort now, and you'll reap the rewards that much sooner. No, its not easy in the beginning. Please try to remember that these feelings are only TEMPORARY and do go away with time. Post here as often as need be, rest when you can, and repeating what nonic said, the water really helps. You can do this, one crave at a time! NS - I think the one adjective that best describes my first day as a non-smoker is "more". I found that I had more of everything.... I had more: *Time (so much time was wasted smoking/going somewhere to smoke/going somewhere to buy smokes, etc.) *Air in my lungs *Emotions *Cravings *Money (smokes are sooo expensive where I live) *Thoughts (so much mind space was used figuring out when/where to have my next smoke, and once I was smoking, it seemed to dull/shield my thoughts in general) *Life (every minute I don't smoke is adding time to my life span) *Febreeze (I use to go through a bottle every few days trying to get the stink of smoke out of my coat, sofa, etc) You get the point! So, the bottom line is - quitting is hard - it feels terrible for a while both physically & emotionally. But, it's bearable and it gets better every day. I'm on Day #6 - this is the greatest accomplishment of my life. nsgirl...I am sorry about your emphysemia, did I spell that right??? Anyway...this in no way compares to your situtation but before I quit I would wake up coughing about an hour or so after going to bed. The day I stopped smoking that cough disappeared. Not a week later...that very day. You have so many reasons to quit smoking....give me 1 good reason to smoke? You can do this...stay motivated with a positive attitude! Hi ns! Welcome! Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking. You may find it tough in the early days and you may encounter emotions that have been lying dormant or masked by your smoking. So you're a bit weepy! Do not panic! All the answers to ALL your questions are on this site somewhere. Stick with it and stay close to this site - it will work and you will succeed if you really want to. Good Luck Penitent d1017
