OK everyone, need some great advice here. I have two kids that have been wanting my hubby and I to quit for some time. Well, now that we are both doing it, they are ecstatic. Problem is, they want to know "When are u quit?? How do you answer this question to a 5 or 11 year old? The little one now is just told we quit, but as for the older one? I explained to her that it is a process, and as such it takes time. Unfortunatly that will onle hold for so long. I could tell her Tuesday, but she would hold it against me if I have a bad day Wednesday. :) Any ideas? Thank you everyone. And Iyour right, I AM quit. As I have no intention to ever have another smoke, I am quit. I guess I am just scared to tell the kids I am quit and then have a slip. As PeterPan said, I don't want them to "look at me like only kids know how- you know the look they get when they see you doing something really stupid.." And your right about explaining this process to them . I can only hope that being a part of this quit with hubby and I would be enough to keep either of them fom lighting up in the future. God knows, they are able to see first hand how crazy this is at times makig us. But they really are so proud and I can see that every time I look into their smiling faces and answer the all important question to them "How long has it been now?" I am proud to say 10 days 17 hrs. 44 mins. and 45 secs. And I bet they are gonna love the rewards we do share with them. They don't know this yet, but we are already paying for our first family vacation to Disny. I can't wait to book a Non-Smoking room :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/15/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 267 Amount Saved: $82.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 18 Mins: 16 Seconds: 22

Thats exactly what i was looking for. Thanks a bunch guys. She gave me a quit gift yesterday, a ring and keychain she made from a rock tumbling kit. It's wonderful to see how proud she is. Thank you again. I agree with Katy, you are quit after you smoke that last cigarette. The hard part is never picking it up again. Katy, you are setting a good example. You never know who is watching, and what they will take from it. Keep up the good work!
As I have no intention to ever have another smoke, I am quit. I guess I am just scared to tell the kids I am quit and then have a slip.
Here's my opinion: TELL EVERYONE YOU'VE QUIT FOREVER! INCLUDING YOUR KIDS! If it's truly your intention to never ever ever have another smoke, then make yourself accountable to as many people as possible, including those that you love the most and would hate to disappoint! And then... Never, ever, ever smoke again. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,701 Amount Saved: $168 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 20 Mins: 3 Seconds: 26

When are you quit? You quit ten days ago, Whynot - you are already quit, since ten days! Congratulations! When you might stop thinking about the quit is a different matter. Your explanation sounds top-notch to me. It is a process, you're right - it does take time, yes, but it is possible. It does happen. That's the important factor for us all to remember. Sounds like you're doing really well! I think I understand what you are getting at. Your daughter wants to know why you and your husband might be a little crankier than normal for a while and when will that stop. Is that right? If so, then explain to her that mommies and daddies have good and bad days, just like she does and that you might be having a few more of them right now, but that you are doing this for HER and her brother and that this is a good thing for the whole family. When we talk about quitting, we always need to mention rewards for quitting. Well, in a family situation like this, it might be important to reward the kids too for putting up with a little bit more grouchiness from mom and dad than normal. Treat them to a fun night out as a reward for the family for you and your husband staying quit. Let this be a family thing. While your and your husband's quits are very personal and are each your own, you can bring your kids into it by letting them celebrate big milestones with you. Don't be afraid to tell them that you've been quit for "such and such" days and that this is a really big thing. They will love that you are including them in the quit process. As for when you are quit? Well, you're quit right now. But that doesn't mean that the process is over yet. If you're asking when will you no longer have bad days... well, I'm still waiting for that one to happen! :eg: But then again, I had bad days as a smoker too and I will continue to have bad days for the rest of my life... I just don't smoke through them anymore, and that's the difference. It sounds like you've got 2 really great kids who are so proud of their parents for quitting! Reward THEM too for putting up with some of the negative side effects of quitting. They deserve it too! Congrats on your quit! Crave the Quit! Gotta love kiddies!!!! I'd say... "look here...do you see Momma smokin'"? And with a huge smile and a great smellin' kiss tell em' "I am quit as of RIGHT now, because I love you SO much!!!"
