Jazphoto, Since you're going to your Dr. ask about Chantix. I took it for 1 week before I quit and I really haven't had any withdrawal symptoms. It's like I remember smoking but I don't really have an urge. Don't get me wrong, I do think about it, but as long as I keep repeating a simple phrase that speaks volumes: " [b]GOD grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference"[/b] Once I stop my [i]"stinkin thinkin"[/i]and turn my head towards something positive, it's quite a while before I realize I haven't thought of a cigarette in 3 or 4 hours. Real Information...from Ex-Smokers who have gone through what you now face. Regardless of what you choose to help you in your quit, there will be someone here. We will be here for you to share your victory aganist our foe of addiction :eg: "Nicodemon" and teach you about it. Whenever you feel waves of craving...come here and post about it. This will leave, and with every puff you don't take...they will get farther apart and with less intensity...after you go through the withdrawal. Withdrawal starts as soon as you stop nicotine. Hi Jaz and welcome to the board. I havent read the posts on this thread just your post so apologies if i repeat. I just wanted to say that feeling detached is fairly normal. I think it is to do with oxygen in your brain when you smoke it doesnt get to your brain - when you stop your brain gets loads of it - hence you feeling detached - spaced out 0r sketchy. yep its normal. I am wondering WHY are you reducing your cigarettes every day? Do yourself a favour and read the Allen Carr book (whilst smoking if you must) cutting down rarely works because you are still feeding the nicotine... you can quit full stop and it isnt as hard as you might think. Esp not with the support of this board. You have come to the right place. Sounds like you have ample of reasons to quit. Is, or has, your mother quit as well? Everyone's quit is different and symptoms vary person to person. Jazphoto, Please know this is normal among quitters. It is temporary and it will pass. Until then, try to find new outlets for your emotions. Daily physical activity and lots of rewards will also help to boost your mood. If you do decide you would like to use a quit smoking aid, please consult your doctor. Newlife, Welcome to the SSC! The first step of the quit process will be to come up with a quit plan so start working through our online quit program. You'll need an attack plan for cravings, a list of distractions and a reward system. The next step will be to start practicing this lifestyle change. * Start leaving or only carrying with you the amount of cigarettes you need. * Start monitoring when you smoke and why. This will help clue you into your addiction. Do you smoke out of boredom? Stress? Craving? Write it down. Then go back and take a look at your quit plan. How will you get around these obstacles? How will keep occupied, manage stress and cravings? Take a read on our forums if you need any tips. * Now that you know when your smoking, for what reason etc... start implementing your plan in order to delay that next cigarette. Ex: You are craving a cigarette. You drink a glass of ice water and do a little deep breathing. This helps you delay that cigarette for another hour. Success! Next time see if you can delay for hour and half. * Set your quit date and work towards it with the steps above. Practicing helps you to start learning what your cravings will be like and how to get a hold of them. Lastly, keep participating in the forums. A lot of people have body detachement. Like I'm not myself, and nothing seems real to me, especially not smoking. This is one of the hardest things to do and you are super to take this step. On the left where it says my glove compartment, click on the "here' and it will take you to where you need to go to update your info.
