Hi Rosie's friend Does Chantix work...you better believe it! (me)..56-yr grandmother, 30+ yr smoker 2 1/2 pks a day You still have to have the mind set to quit, so don't think it's going to do it for you,....but....it will hit the pleasure receptors in the brain to think it's getting it's nicotine, and will probably cause you to smoke less and less. On your quit Date...it will be totaly "your choice" not to light up a cigarett. It was a piece of cake for me...because I quit once cold-turkey and that my dear....was HARD TO DO. ONCE YOU STOP INGESTING NICOTINE....the body starts withdrawing from it..the sooner the better...and it takes about 72 hours to clean it out. Then your lungs will start their cleaning process as well, some of us cough up phlegm...but some do not. I had a cough, and it went away after a week. The good ting about Chantix is that all of those withdrawal symptoms will be much minimized...so you won't feel it as badly as those who use NRT's or Cold-Turkey. I just stopped using my Chantix this past Sunday or Monday...and I have had no side effects. the reason I stopped using it sooner than the 12 week expectation was because I was forgetting to take my dose and it would be a couple hours later when I would remember. So I thought well, it must be time to quit using it. One good thing though I have noticed is that what I thought were cravings....stopped when I quit the Chantix...I think what they were ...were only triggers=association with the pill! no more pills...no more cravings You can do this, and read, read, read... auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 81 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,069 Amount Saved: $384.75 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 4 Mins: 44 Seconds: 58

Thanks to all of you for your great advice and support! I changed my quit date to 3/26/07, which was day 11 on the Chantix. When day 8 rolled around I just didn't feel ready (maybe I didn't want to be ready) but by Monday the 26th I was there. It is almost scary how easy these past 2 days have been. The only time I even think of smoking is when I am bored or need a break from work or chores. It is great how the Chantrix takes care of the nicotine part of it and I can work on the habit part of it. In the past I have used patches, inhalers and hypnosis and nothing, but nothing has been this pleasant! I feel great and when I feel bored or needing a break I take one of my two dogs for a walk, they think this is great, they were lucky if they got to go for a walk once a week, now every day once or twice each day! Rosie's Friend Don't forget to eat when you take these pills. I found that if I just take them with fluid and no food I get a really upset stomach but if I take them with food and fluid I have no problem. Other than that I have had no side effects from taking Chantix. It really seems to help me. I have vivid dreams, but nothing really crazy or weird. Good Luck with your quit, you can do it!! Hope that helps. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 391 Amount Saved: $75 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 15 Mins: 47 Seconds: 42

Hi Rosie's Friend I too am on Chantix and it has definately helped me. I still have cravings and urges, but they are bearable and I am able to distract myself until the crave goes away. I don't think I could do this quit without it. I give a world of credit also to this site. Its been wonderful. Keep coming back and post often. Good Luck, We know you can do it. Stay positive! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 339 Amount Saved: $65 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 10 Mins: 28 Seconds: 7

Chantix has worked for me. I'm like you I am the Queen of Stop Smoking. Nothing has ever worked for me until now. I can only urge you to read this board and note all the pit falls that you may encounter and make a plan to meet each one should the occasion arise. Attitude is everything and so is your willingness to be an active participant in your quit. No such thing as a passive quitter. Knowledge is a must and this board has enough wisdom to write a book. You may think you know it all and you very well might but you might not be using that knowledge effectively toward yourself. You know how we do love to decieve ourselvels. Read everything you can on stopping smoking talk to everyone that will talk to you about their quit and keep in mind that it is said that nicotine is ten times more addictive than herion. How true that is I can't say but it truly makes me very angry to hear it 36 years after I smoked my first cigarette. How does it make you feel? Another Chantix user here. It's been great. I'm on day 40 of my quit today and I'm still mostly in shock, looking around going "did I really quit smoking?!?!?" If you search "chantix" under "search messages" you'll find a lot of posts about it. It really has been very effective for me. As for the dreams, as someone (I think Changing) said above, don't worry about them. I also think of them as a bonus. I haven't had anything I would truly call a "nightmare" but I've had some awesomely vivid and entertaining dreams -- including one in which I had to battle holograms of historical figures (like Abe Lincoln!!!) as they came to life! :) Looking forward to seeing you joining the ranks of non-smokers! No, I'm from Houston, TX! I just started the Chantrix, I took my 1st pill with a big glass of water as instructed. I am really concerned about the dreams/nightmares that I have heard of people having. Any other wierd feelings or symptoms?
