Sher - I'm in the same situation as you. A 35 year smoker and I've tried everything to quit. My MD gave me Chantix and it was really easy to quit. I'm still on it and my cravings after 50 days are almost non-existent. I do worry a little about coming off of Chantix. I have about 3 1/2 weeks left on my 12 week program and I think I want to stop there. I just wonder how it's gonna be WITHOUT Chantix. Oh well... Good luck to you! I think you'll do just fine... -- 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 50 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,422 Amount Saved: $275 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 8 Mins: 25 Seconds: 30

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Welcome, Sher -- I'm also a 35-year smoker, now a Chantix quitter. I'm also a grandma and happy to be a nonsmoking grandma, to boot! Chantix is SO helpful in getting through the early part of the quit, as long as you keep reading and learning about the addiction itself and preparing yourself constantly in how to conquer it. I WAS a little concerned when I first got off the Chantix -- for about 2 weeks, I felt SO strange, so edgy, but I still didn't want to smoke. That's the key, you know, in knocking back what you call "stinkin' thinkin'" (I LOVE that, by the way). You have to keep it on the positive side -- the WHY you're now a nonsmoker, the TOTAL LACK of anything positive about being a smoker. After a couple of rather strange weeks off the Chantix, I was fine and feeling like a perfectly normal NONSMOKER! Whoo hoooooooo!!! The "stinkin' thinkin'" is the addiction, the junkie in you trying to lure you back. Smack it back HARD and remind yourself that smoking is not an option. That's what I do -- well, smoking isn't an option, so I'll have to deal with how I'm feeling at this moment in some other way. So far, it's ALWAYS worked. Stay positive -- and knock that "stinkin' thinkin'" out the door! Keep the faith and that great quit -- holler if you need any help! Congrats! I am also a Chantix quitter---great stuff! Just remember NOPE-Not One Puff Ever (that had always been my downfall in previous quitts). Keep up the good work and keep busy. I lived (and still do) with ice cold diet green tea and a bag of sunflower seeds always within reach! Tutti, This is normal. Many have gotten a little nervous with regards to impending withdrawals. Please know that even if you do become a little irritable, it is only temporary. Danielle _________________________ The SSC Support Team
