I LOVE that faithfreedom, The "stinkin' thinkin'" is the addiction, the junkie in you trying to lure you back. Smack it back HARD and remind yourself that smoking is not an option. I'm sure I'll be using that on myself when the urge gets bad,Thanks! Good Luck! Sher you can do this and you can get alot of help reading all these post, your sure not alone in this. Best Wishes on your Quit! Hi Sher, Congratulations on your two day (almost 3) quit! I am also taking Chantix and I am on my second quit day. I thought the first day (2/14) would be excruciating, but it wasn't that bad (even tho' I was working from home due to bad weather). Today I have managed to keep busy, and rarely have I noticed a real "urge" for a cig, rather I am aware of the moments when I would normally go for a smoke. I didn't notice a real desire to cut down during the initial week of Chantix, but so far, it hasn't been as bad as I had feared. I don't want to let go of the fear just in case it gets bad as I progress... so far this is just too easy so I know the hard times are probably ahead. I haven't had any side effects from the Chantix, except for some wild dreams (I had a tour of the White House with Barbara Bush!). I have an excedrin PM handy in case I awaken and can't get back to sleep...I don't want to risk a sleeping pill with only a few hours left to sleep. Haven't needed one yet. I keep telling myself "You don't NEED a cigarette, you just WANT one". That has been working for me. I am determined to quit, and beat the ol' Nicodemon into submission. Good luck to you! Keep the quit! Chantix is a lifesaver... Finally after 35 yrs of smoking, I admited I was afraid to quit. Not sure what I was afraid of, but I know I was afraid. I smoked 1.5 packs a day and could go up to 2 packs a day easily. I did a lot of stinkin thinkin to talk myself into smoking. Like that was a good idea? Well, I finally talked to my Dr. and he gave me Chantix, the new prescription. I've taken it for 9 days then quit and boy am I impressed with it, I don't really have a heavy nicotine craving, some mild urges but nothing I can't handle at this point. I use those terrible Commit mints about once a day. My big issue is that stinkin thinkin. Does anyone have some good things to repeat over and over again? I used "I'm living longer"; "My grandchildren will have a Nana for more years to come"; "I'm saving money"; "I don't stink any more"; I'm healthier", but that stinkin thinkin comes back. I take it one minute at a time now. I'm gonna make it this time!!!!! Sher, I can't figure it out either but I was scared to quit. I quit on Feb. 14th, just yesterday. But every time I've tried to quit, I would be scared to quit and it makes no sense at all to me. And, I keep expecting myself to become an absolute nervous wreck without a cigarette. I've told myself all of the same things you have but that "stinkin thinkin" comes back to mind and then I find myself scared and expecting to become the meanest, crabbiest, bundle of nerves that ever walked the planet with the only thing that'll help is a cigarette. I'm over thinking or dwelling on cigarettes. Ugh!!! Tutti

Hi Sher, The stinkin thinking will always pop up but you don't have to listen. Another chanix quitter here. The craves are alot milder than any of my other quits. Just keep busy and don't let that thinking talk you into (not even one puff) Push it out of your head. Think of something else. Springtime, shopping, anything to change your thought pattern. We are here. We will help anyway we can. If a hug will help here is a big HUG!!!!!! JNINE

Sher !! As the late and Great James Brown would say, "I feel good, sha da la da la da, Like I knew I would, sha da la da la da so nice...da la da la da...like sugar and spice...da la da la da" oowwwwllllllllll! Plant that in your head every time a trigger or urge comes around! Songs and laughter can elevate good thoughts! Welcome to our site and read, read, read. Take deep breaths a lot...when those urges...or cravings come as well. I smoked 2 1/2 packs a day when I quit. I wouldn't even think about using a nicotine replacement thing, because I know...its still nicotine, and feeds the addiction. The sooner you get the drug out, the sooner the healing begins. YOU CAN DO IT THIS TIME...we will help you. If one of us doesn't spark something, proably someone else will. auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 45 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,277 Amount Saved: $213.75 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 6 Mins: 24 Seconds: 21
