Day 2

17 years ago 0 86 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Day 2 is kinda worse but I'm still smoke free. I really want to light up but my desire to remanin smoke free is stronger. I miss smoking particularily with my morning coffee. I have learned to substitute other things in place of what I use to do and so far it seems to be working ok. My deep breathing exercisers also help but I seem to have major issues with feeling just plain angry that I cannot smoke anymore. I know this too will pass and the desire will lesson but its agonizing right now. Thanks for all the support and I will stay close. Major crave going on but big breath.....INHALE........EXHALE..... ps I am using someone eles' computer and will show my meter when my computer is back up sometime next week.

Good morning Mamma D, Congratulations making it through day one and into day two, We all know how anger can affect and increase cravings when your trying to quit. Understanding the anger and getting "through" the craving without smoking is the trick. Start keeping a journal so that when a craving hits....define the emotion, or situation that is triggering it in black and white on paper by your own hand. Take really deep breaths and let them out slowly as you diffuse the anger (or anxiety). Drink some water too. If someone calls on the phone, get a plastic straw to chew on while you talk. Be ever conscious of your good reasons to be a Non-Smoker. One of my reasons stood out like a light bulb the other day while out with my (still smoking 27 yr-old daughter). "I want a cigarrett", she said as if expecting me to say no she could not light up and looking directly into my eyes. "Go ahead Hon if you want to smoke, just crack the window and blow it out. I hope that you will quit though when you are ready one day" I said looking at her with my knowing eyes of what the addiction means to those coping with depression and anxiety. "I'm so proud of you Mom for quitting" she said smiling. Mamma D...my children are just one of the reasons why I chose to quit...to set examples for them...it can be done, and to encourage in everyway that I can. All three of my children smoke unfortunately. They know that I quit the first time (10 years) for them...so they could eat. They know that this time...I am quitting for me! Listen to the wise lady faithfreedom...she explains so well. good luck auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,869 Amount Saved: $175.75 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 3 Mins: 28 Seconds: 36

P.S. Watch the language you use when talking to yourself. You say you're angry that you "cannot smoke any more". You can smoke any time you want to. But the point is you've CHOSEN to quit smoking, presumably for some excellent reasons. Recount those reasons to yourself. You're not denying yourself anything that's positive. If you focus on what you THINK you're missing, that's a recipe for failure. It's such a trap that your junkie self uses to convince yourself to smoke again. Don't listen -- remember that you're ADDICTED -- that's where that junkie talk comes from. Listen to your wise and rational side instead -- the side that has made a very wise choice to quit smoking and knock this addiction to the next planet. Keep the faith My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 121 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,878 Amount Saved: $968 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 22 Mins: 53 Seconds: 28

Mamma D: You're doing great! Nobody ever claimed this would be easy, right? But what is that's truly worthwhile? One moment, one hour, one day at a time. Keep breathing -- three very deep breaths in through your nose, out through your mouth - slowly. That will help you. Keep going -- you're on a roll. And keep the faith. Mama D, Something I learned early in my quit is that your body is able to metabolize caffeine twice as fast when there is nicotine in your system. Therefore, when I quit smoking, one cup of coffee is about all I can handle! No longer can I drink a whole pot of coffee before heading off to work! So be careful with the caffeine! I'm so glad that your resolve to be smoke free is stronger than your desire to quit! This is a journey like no other, stay strong and know that being smoke free is worth all the junk that you are going through now! You are doing fine!!! here's where to direct that anger.....at the fact that smoking leaves us ADDICTED! How stupid are we to stick with feeding a need that over time intensifies that addiction! When I think how stupid I was, it makes me angry....at MYSELF....HOW the hell did I let that happen??? I knew smoking was bad for me....and I knew I was hooked....I knew all that YEARS before I decided to be mad about it! and being angry makes me determined as hell that I will NOT continue to answer to a stupid thing like nicotine addiction!! STanding around sucking on a bunch of burning weeds! Inhaling smoke like I thought it was a SMART thing to do?? When I think how I smoked I am ashamed! I am smarter than that!! "I" will be the one in control.....I will put that addiction in it's place! I will throw it out the door and down the stairs....and I WILL not let it come back in! Stick with me and let's KICK ASH!
