Kit, Yes, it get better with everyday you add to your meter. It isn't easy but you only have to go through it once. Hang in there. Keep distractions and coping strategies close and don't forget to reward yourself often for staying smoke free. Danielle _________________________ The SSC Support Team

Kit you are more than half way through the first week. You go! Make sure to keep the focus. Find and make really clear to yourself why you are quitting. Stay Strong. You can do this. Good morning, Kit. Like you I am early on in my quit are as many others. If I could offer 2 things that have helped me so far it would be deep breathing, sort of meditating in my own way. Also, the negative self talk almost tossed me into failure for about 30 minutes on day 2. You have got to create a positive thought process. I know it's hard and something you will probably have to teach yourself, I know that is what I am learning how to do. Sometimes minute by minute! Good luck and "smile" My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 67 Amount Saved: $12.36 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 5 Seconds: 5

Hi Kit, Get that quit meter going! Maybe it will be a source of inspiration to you. I know just how you feel. But, isn;t that a clear sign to us of how addictive nicotine is; a sign of what a horrible addiction this is? Think of it that way. It is a sign that your body and mind is trying to heal itself from the harm of continued nicotine use. It will not last forever. Hang in there..read, and post, read and post. Avoid smokers, distract yourself, pamper yourself. It is hard, but worth it and you can do it..you need to believe that. Kit, are you working on the workbook? Have you started a quit journal? Write down your reasons for quitting and carry them with you. Print out posts here that speak to you. Make a reward list for your milestones. Spend some time looking up information about quitting on the web. Yes, it's an obsession right now and it really has to be for you to overpower the addiction. It has to be your primary focus. You have to protect your quit with all your stubbornness and determination. Just say N.O.P.E. - Not One Puff Ever. That's the only way, but things will get better day by day. forgot one point......do you have smokes around???? get RID of them!! Keeping smokes within reach is just begging for a screw-up. In most instances, the "time" it would take you to go out and obtain smokes, is the "time" you need to get back in control of a craving. So no handy smokes. OMG....my kids called me cybil for weeks! and you don't HAVE to be able to recite reasons....you just have to hang on. Be VERY good to yourself....regular eating and lots of snacking, lots of rest, lots of pampering, special treats, daily rewards, pauses to breath deep and feel a sense of PRIDE at being in control of what you are doing.....I know it may not feel like it, but you are WINNING....YOU are in control!! You have reached out and grasp the prize....now you must hang on and refuse all thoughts of letting go. Just hang tough and believe me it WILL pass and things will begin to get better!!
