Well.... I finally got sick and tired of smoking. I'm sick of the constant sinus infections, the non stop bronchitis and of course the constant nagging from my doctor. I was at a pack and a half to two packs a day a week and a half ago.... now down to four on the weekends, one on the weekdays. Also been on Zyban for two weeks now and in South Dakota you can get it for $30 bucks a month if you know where to go! lol Anyways, with the help of my counseler my quit date is set for Febuary 3rd. I'm absolutly terrified. Since I cut back so drastically and in such a short amount of time I now have sore throats, bloody noses, and the constant nightmares. The withdrawls aren't whats so hard for me. Its the habit itself. I have been smoking for well over ten years, i'm 25 next month.. you do the math. I hate that i've allowed it to get this far and I hate myself as well. I'm told that i'm definatly at the point to quit... just terrified to let go. Hi pwoodward, Yea the bronchitis sucks, The constant coughing is really annoying. I was coughing all the time even was waking me up at night. Haven't coughed at all since I quit. That is what I use as my biggest reason to quit, that and I hated smelling like an ashtray. You can do this, it is a habit. A real bad one. It takes time to break it but you can do it. jnine My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 300 Amount Saved: $41.25 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 23 Mins: 6 Seconds: 53

PW: Don't you hate yourself! That is SO pointless! Hate the addiction, hate the nicotine, hate the fact that you've wasted so much time, health and money on such a disgusting addiction. That's where your anger belongs -- stay mad and it will help you to a successful quit. Now, embrace yourself and congratulate yourself for making the best possible decision, the best choice to quit smoking. It IS a choice, you know, in spite of the addiction. If you continue to choose to not light a cigarette, VOILA, you are a nonsmoker!! Read all you can about the addiction, then get mad at what it has been doing to you, how sick you feel, and when you quit, and you have a craving, THAT'S because of the addiction. Get mad about that! Without the addiction, you wouldn't feel that way. But I guarantee you this: every craving you get through gets you that much closer to your ultimate goal of being a non-smoker. And it truly get easier. The rewards are huge -- you're worth it. Let us help. Keep posting and let us know how you're doing. Scream if you need any help or just vent away! Keep the faith -- you CAN do this! NOPE - Not One Puff Ever. Hi woodward - I remember how scary it was...Like standing on the top of a cliff. I honestly didn't think that I could do it - I had smoked for over 27 years (my entire adult life and then some) I quit one day at a time. When the days were rough, I got through them and started over the next day. Eventually the days turn into weeks and the quit starts to "fit"....It's a journey with lots of new skills to learn........but we are all travelling the same road. If I can do this, anybody can. Won't it feel great to get rid of this nasty addiction!!?? pwoodward, Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking! It's the best do for yourself! I can definitely relate to everything you said in your post. Before I quit, I was on breathing treatments 2 times a day, was on 7 different medications for my breathing and my cough and had a constant cough that would not go away... and I was 28 years old! I've learned from being on this site for well over a year and a half (I rejoined the site last summer, but have really been here since June of 2005) that younger quitters seem to sometimes have a more difficult time quitting... perhaps because of maturity issues, perhaps because we haven't seen as many bad things happen due to smoking or perhaps because we don't feel that we're done with our "partying" phase of our lives yet and smoking is a huge part of that. But here's the thing... you HAVE already seen some of the bad of smoking because you've had the constant sinus infections, bronchitis and such. You actually have a leg up on others your age! And think about how much MORE money you will save over the course of your lifetime than those who quit at an older age! How awesome is that?!?! It sounds like you have a lot going for you in your quit. Just stick close to this site and remember N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever. Welcome to the site and congrats again on your awesome decision to quit smoking! Crave the Quit! Pwoodward1982, Congratulations on two days smoke free! Time for a reward! The problems you are experiencing could be due to withdrawals, however if they persist, worsen or accompanied by other symptoms, please consult your MD. Keep persevering!
