yup. One trick for you to initiate is to re-arrrange your environment to dis-associate it with smoking. Can you move the computer? Move the desk? re-decorate? Do you listen to music? - change it up. Change the smell of your "office", use candles or sprays or plug ins or oils. And, keep lots of mouth stuff around - straws, candy canes, gum, gum and more gum. Take Tea breaks, reg. or herbal. Even putting pictures of your loved ones or relaxing pictures on or around the computer can help. Don't forget something funny. You doing great. Tutti- Just take it day by day, hour by hour, min by min. Just keep repeating I will not smoke right now. Then the days, hours, mins add up. The first few days are the hardest...it does get better, I promise. I was the type of person who would never even think of quitting. I loved my smokes, I needed them, I had to have them. Well that was all a crock. Get help if you need to..patches, gum or get the advise of your Doctor. My Dr helped me every step of the way!!! You can do it!!! Hey Tutti, If you tell your mind not to think of a cigaret you will think about it more and more. It is ok to think about smoking but you need to cheange your mind. You have to tell yourself that you do not WANT to smoke. Smoking is filty, it stinks and it's unhealthy too. Be happy that you do not have to smoke, because you choose not to smoke anymore. Tutti, You've gotten some great replies from your fellow members. To get your mind off cigarettes occupy it with something else. A distraction. You'll see, as days pass, not every waking moment will be focused on smoking. In addition to breaking the associations you have with smoking, you can also reward yourself for staying smoke free. This reinforces your quit positively because it gives you something tangible for your good behavior. Rewards also help lift the mood and help to fill that void a little. Just make sure you select rewards you'd be willing to work for. Keep going! You're doing great! Danielle __________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi Tutti and welcome to my saving grace website! I have learned sooo much about quitting that I feel like a walking/talking encyclopedia for quitting! My biggest struggle has been thinking too much too!!! Believe it or not I have spent the last week or so practicing "not thinking". By that I mean, I take a quiet moment and do a few deep breathes with my eyes closed and I make myself think about one of my favorite places in the world (I change it up quite often). When I am thinking about that place I go into great detail...in my minds eye I describe to myself colors, textures, temperature, and anything else that comes to mind. You actually have to do this, not just think about it! Have you ever been so busy and then looked down and said to yourself, "my, my, where did the time go"....thats how to stop thinking! It's working for me...give it a try...day 22 is feeling AWESOME!!! you tell the junky to bite your butt and get busy doing something else.....you turn AWAY from that thinking....you squash it dead in it's tracks....the more you do it, the easier it gets....then one day you realize you haven't had to kill a thought for half a day :) hello freedom!
