Hello, I`m New to-day

Imallclear! Thanks for the reply. My wife has used the patches many times over the years and I can`t say it`s worked very good for her, but at the same time I was smokin like a chimney and that sure didn`t help. I have to admit that I have an additive type personality and also have a drinking problem, but have not taken a drop since 8/22/96. I also have a support group that helps maintain my sobriety, and need another one to conquer this addition. I have smoked so long that I light up without even knowing I`m doing it. I guess I have at least made one little step admitting to myself that it is ruining my health. I am still very active an operate my own business which requires alot of out-of-state driving and have noticed because of the boredom I smoked twice as much. I have accomplished a lot in my lifetime and I feel somewhat confident I can do this if I get started on the right track. Your pharmacist is correct, "Just don`t buy em".

Hello, my name is Hoppy and I have not quit smoking yet. And need alot of help since I`ve smoked beginning at age 12. (53) years ago. That`s right I`m now 65 and would like to get this Monkey off my back. I`ve half-heartely tried several times to no avail. I live with my wife and son and they both smoke and also want to quit. Should I buy something from the drug store to help? If so what might work?

Dear Hoppy, I know exactly what you meant when you said, "I'd light up without even knowing it." I've done the same thing so many times that I wonder just how many cigarettes I burned up with only three or four puffs taken. For me, it seemed like I constantly had one lit unless I was sleeping. I just quit two days ago and I won't lie, it hasn't been easy but this site has been a great support group for me. I have to be able to talk to someone who understands what I'm going through. Patches, nicorette gum, the lozenges and all of those tools aren't an option for me. I'm diabetic so the oral quit tools have sugar in them which I can't have. I'm 46 years old and I have three children that I want to see have children of their own. Quitting isn't an option for me if I want to see my grandchildren. It isn't an option for me at all. Fact is, I'm sick of lugging around that ball and chain and I know you are too. It's never, ever too late to quit. You can do this and we all understand how tough it is. Lord knows, I'm not pro at quitting but I can sure be here to listen to you if or when you need to talk. We can do this together. Take Care and Good Luck. Hi there Mr. Hoppy! I just quit 4 days ago. I am still struggling but am working on it. I smoked almost four packs a day for over fifteen years..and i know what you are going through. Please do the steps and stay with the support group..they have SO helped me. Even when you just need a pic me up..okay? You CAN do this. It may take a couple tries (or more) but each try is one step closer to the permanent quit, so never a failure! It is kind of scary to consider giving up something that has been around so long. Didn't realize what a big part of you they were, did you? Well, guess what..they are not a big part of you...they are hiding the BEST parts of you! You can do this!

Hi Hoppy, I agree with cathyo, chantix It is the newest on the market and it does not have any nicotine in it at all. It works on your brain somehowe. go to the chantix web site. Ask about the free coupon that the doctor should have for $10.00 or &20.00 You can get all the info from there site. It sure has worked for me and many of our customers at the Pharmacy. But you still have to want to quit and willing to try hard. But if the whole house is gonna quit together you have a small support goup right there. Plus this one. Let us know what you decide. Welcome Hoppy and Family. auntdeb here... Grandmother 56, 30+yr smoker...with a 10 yr quit in between going Cold-Turkey (non-smoker 1982-1992) (started back like a fool because of some personal issues, wish they had this site...back then) "Cold-Turkey" is the hardest but quickest way to quit! NRT's prolong withdrawal...because they are nicotine. A lot of members here use them, and some very successfully! Chantix is not available everywhere and does have to be prescribed by a doctor. I had tried to quit several times in the last 5-6 years with no success...until my daughter recommended this. I smoked 2 1/2 packs a day like a train. It truly is like a Magic Pill... It makes your brain dissassociate from nicotine. It is not a nicotine replacement. We have some great tools to work with on the left...work the program. Stay close to this site, and I'm sure your family will join you. auntdeb Sardinia, OH :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 46 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,333 Amount Saved: $218.5 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 10 Mins: 4 Seconds: 54

When I went to ask the pharmacist that question he told me "just stop buying cigarettes" HA!. Read some posts here and work the workbook, both will give you ideas. there are prescription medications, patches and nic. gum and lozengers (sp?), and nic filters and books and relaxation techniques and hypnotism and accupuncture. Lots of stuff. They are all aids to you committment to quit. Bottom line, you need to do what is right for you - and try whatever it takes. We'll be here for you (and your wife and son). Welcome. I admire you already. If you can get a handle on drinking - you can do ANYTHING. I also like how you admitted your role in your wife's efforts. This time I think it's all gonna fall into place :) Stick close.
