Slivers: Welcome back! Great choice. I do hope you will re-read this thread and the very important messages you received from members here. Remember that this IS a choice you've made. If you smoke, that's a choice, too. Be clear on why you're quitting and work the program to the left. Have a solid plan for yourself for coping with cravings, distractions and rewards -- with all that and our help, you should do fine. You CAN do this, if you choose to. We're here for you. Keep the faith. Hi slivers, I'm sorry to learn that you're not going to make it this time. Please don't think of it as a failure, but rather a step in the right direction. You've learned much this time and that will help, when the time is right, for you to give up cigarettes forever. Quitting is not an easy thing and I must admit that it took me many attempts to get as far as I am right now. Every day I am happy to have avoided smoking for another 24 hours. Please don't think anyone here will think less of you for not succeeding immediately. You are always welcome here and your experience will do much to help others. Hope to see you again soon. Hi slivers...I just read your post. Maybe this isn't the right time for you. This forum is a support system to help us along the way. If not for SCC, I would stil be smoking. However....SCC is only one part of the equation (I still had a whole life left to live and I couldn't take the internet with me) I used the patches to deal with the physical addiction and used the support and advise from moderators and members to learn skills to deal with my emotional addiction. Everybody's quit is different. I wish you the best and hope that you find a method that works for you. Just remember that SCC will always be here if you need us. Take care. Slivers, Do NOT give up on yourself!!! The ONLY way to be a comfortable ex-smoker is to keep trying! What happened? Did you slip? What made you do it? Why do you think you cannot do this right now? I completely agree, after reading many of your posts, that perhaps an NRT or other aid might be the thing to help you quit, but just remember... YOU have to do the quitting. An aid is only that - it's meant to HELP you. You must provide the determination and desire. The best way I know how to build desire to quit is to learn everything you can about the quit process and about what smoking does to you. KNowing what I know now, I don't think I could EVER go back to smoking because I just know too much. So, while you are preparing to quit again, I suggest that you learn as much as you can about smoking and what it does to you. That will definitely help you build desire and determination. Whatever you do, don't tell yourself that you don't have any willpower. Don't ever say that you can't do it. As Henry Ford said, "whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right." So always believe in yourself and believe that you CAN do it! And we're here for you when you're ready. Best wishes. Crave the Quit! Silvers, I started smoking in the 50's, that when everyone thought smoking was cool, wrong answer!!!! And I smoked for 52 years, I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary on Jan 7th. I had many quits before, one for 18 months which was my longest. I watched my husband die of lung cancer that put a dager in my heart. I ask myself, "How bad do you want to live"? And the answer was: I WANT TO LIVE TO SEE MY GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT-GRANDCHILDRED GROWN UP. Now that will be a long time. I believe that is what you want also. You know how it is done after being smoke-free for 36 years. I used the patch, and it worked beautifully. But you have to do the work, I followed the program just like it said, for 10 weeks. I had some problems when I took the patch off, but nothing I couldn't handle. And it was just for 3 or 4 days. But I know that it was nothing like HELL WEEK!! I knew that I couldn't do cold turkey. Walking really helped me. At times I had to do lots of deep breathing, and drink lots of water. But most of all I had to keep myself busy. I printed a post from this site by FishoutofWater and the name of the post is MY RECIPE FOR LIFE, it is still on my ref today. If you haven't read it use the search to find it. I think you will find it very enlightening. I'm so happy that you have made the decision to quit, I know that your granddaughter is proud. Silvers, we are always here so hang on tight and fight for your quit....
