Thank's to all who have replied!!! And NO!!!!I haven't smoked today....YES!!!!!!!!!!! I received some great advice from a friend of mine at the dog park where i take my dog daily. He said "you only need to quit until you go to bed" (there were a lot of early nights for him!!) and a few for me this past week. He also said that you have to tell yourself that you are now a non smoker. A lot of people feel they are depriving themselves of smoking and you have to keep telling yourself...no I am NOT depriving myself I am just a non smoker!!! Good job on everyone for all of your smoke free days. Does anyone actually feel better??? I don't feel any different. I guess good things come with time! Thanks a lot!! Hi.... I am new to the SSC and to quiting smoking! I have been smoking for 20 years and unfortuantly have loved every minute of it. I have tried to quit a few times before, the longest being 5 months using the patch. I recently got married Jan 10 2007 in Cuba on the beach it was awsome!!! I told my new husband before we got married I planned to quit smoking. He was thrilled!! He as well smoked but has this way of being able to turn it on and off when he wants (a control thing) so he too decided to quit with me! On January 24 2007 I went to work with a patch on my shoulder and haven't had a cigarette since!!!! I feel good about it BUT....there are just a few times through out the day I would KILL for a smoke.....now i either get on the phone or take my dog for a walk. The easiest time for me is at work and the hardest time is when I am at home (the down time) I hope to never smoke again as I have big plans for a long healthy life!!! so CHEERS to me and to everyone else on this site for being a winner!!! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/24/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 104 Amount Saved: $24 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 13 Mins: 21 Seconds: 35

Congrats. Both to getting married and more importantly to getting SMART. Smoking never did a thing for you, so why would you help Smoking Kill You? I'm not smoking today. How about you? :) Hi ballzy and welcome to the SSC CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW MARRIAGE !! CONGRATS TO "BOTH OF YOU" IN YOUR DECISION TO QUIT ****??? To answer your question about feeling better from quitting.. I smoked 30 + years... I quit cold-turkey for 10 years (in the middle of those 30 + years)and no...I did not feel any better with the exception for the heaviness in my chest "went away"...but I put on 30 pounds. I was young then...I'm 56 now...I'm getting scared... This will be my last quit and I hope it will be yours too.... don't be a fool as I was and restart...It took me 5-6 years to get up enough courage to try to quit again... I remember how difficult the cold-turkey quit was. Thus, if you have a whole 7 days behind you... you are on your way don't blow it by lighting up or even taking one Puff...it will delay the withdrawal, and continue the craves. "Beware" :eg: Good luck to you and new hubby... read, read, read, and post to let us know how you,re doing! auntdeb My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 30 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,531 Amount Saved: $142.5 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 5 Mins: 6 Seconds: 44

Welcome, Ballzy (LOVE the name, by the way): You are off to a wonderful start in this, your final quit. You got some great advice. I couldn't agree more about the "feeling deprived" issue. THAT is where I truly believe those who have caved (including myself in years past) have fallen into the age-old trap. If we convince ourselves that we have "given up" something we love, the junkie thinking will inevitably lead us back to the thing we believe love, but which is actually killing us. Steer clear of that thinking, twist it around instead to embrace the new you, the nonsmoking, cleaner, better smelling, healthier, will likely live a lot longer YOU! I recommend you read the book, "Quitting the Easy Way" (or something like that for a title). His book did wonders for me and many others in getting our mindset exactly where it must be to successfully quit. But the bottom line is this: If you want to quit more than you want to smoke, you CAN make this a permanent quit. It's simple, don't light a cigarette and VOILA, you are a nonsmoker! NOPE -- Not One Puff Ever! Welcome aboard this nonsmoking train. Good for you!!!! Sounds to me like you've got the right attitude. Make sure you take this quit one crave at a time. And yes, lots of early nights really helps, especially in the beginning. Last night was one of the latest weeknights I've had since I quit. I stayed up until 10:30 pm! I know, I know, I was livin' large! At any rate, congrats to you for your quit. Post often it really helps.
