Hi Time, I agree with the group. You have to forgive yourself and try again. Also know that you have helped me. I too am on Chantix and thought at day 5 maybe I could stop taking the medication. You post made me realize I am not out of the woods yet. Regarding everything in life. I understand about the kids, house and job. I decided when I quit this time that it was a "Me Year". I am still going to take care of the kids (now I have more time since I am not running out to smoke), work and keep my house half way clean (that is a big step for a compulsive person who has to have everything in it's place:))But you know what, with all that we do for other people, we need to start taking care of ourselves. If we don't do it who will. Let us know when you are ready to try again. We will be there for you. I know you'll get right back on that horse. I don't know what the deal is with Chantix but it's working for me. I have the dreams, but I like them. I did have a panic attack one day (never had one before). I know you'll do it this time! Well, I hate to say it but I slipped!! My dizziness I kept talking about in prior threads got so out of control. I went to the doctor and it was either Vertical Benign Vertigo or Super high Level of Stress from quitting smoking. I still am not right. My panic attacks have gome back and have been super blah. Like a Dummy I got off the Chantix thinking after 2 weeks on it I didn't need it anymore. Although it was affecting my sleep really bad, it was probaly worth it to stay on. I was under the impression that Chantix just blocks nicotine and I though " Hey the Nicotine is Gone so why need Chantix"? Well what I didn't remember the doctor saying is the Chantix continues to stimulate the brain the same way nicotine does so you don't have that same affect. Learned alot about Smoking for this quit attempt. My doctor says set a new quit day and switch to gum now since I had dreams with Chantix. It is really scaring because When I quit my underlying depression and anxiety came back to haunt me!! I hate feeling awful. I WILL QUIT, I WILL SET MY NEW DATE. I am just going to have to figure out how to function for my next quit. I am so scared, I have to work, I have two kids to care for, a house to keep clean, A life to Live. I am so Lost!! All your words mean so much. I needed that. I am going back to the doctor this week and as my symtoms are worsening I believe I have some bad sinus infection or inner ear infection. I am going to get this checked out and behind me. I think if I didn't have the dizziness I would of been find. It caused me to panic and go out of whack and into panic. I am prepared though to be ready for the depression and anxiety. I will keep posting and I will no give up. I want to quit!! TIMETOFINDWILLPOWER :) OK...here comes ms wendy to chime in. Withdrawal includes more than just the physical side. When we take away the nicotine...we expose "all underlying emotional issues" I have been thinking like you these past weeks, am I going to renew the rx for the next month? With the additional information I found out about nicotine masking depression...and knowing the depression that came along when I quit in 1982,,, I decided to get the rx, but I also ask the doctor when I go off of this med...in approximately 12 weeks... "Will you be prepared to help me deal with the depression?" or "do you want to give me the name of a psychiatrist now?" Yeagh, sometimes I am extremely BLUNT. Because...my first quit...if I had known then...what I know now...I wouldn't be here on this site!! (I would not be doing a 2nd quit) but...I'm sure glad this site is here and I know you are too! Time: You thought you were lost, but now you've been found. That's why we're here, you know. You do NOT have to go down this rough path alone. Send a cry for help and we'll answer in the best way we know how. Take a deep breath, step back and look at the big picture. Determine what's really important -- if it's your quit, then you're right back at it, no harm done. Get back on the Chantix ASAP -- if you give it a chance, it really will help. It was a Godsend for me, I know. If your doctor thinks this is the wrong choice for you, ok, then do something else. Plan ahead for the panic and how you will deal with it. You can do this -- take your time and get prepared to do it right. We'll help all we can -- you know that. Thinking good thoughts for you, my dear You're stronger than you think you are. It's going to be alright. I'm sorry b/c I know that you had your heart set on the quit and you were ready to go. This hurdle is merely a side-step. We can't always have what we want when we want it. Keep your desire-to-quit-fire burning. It will fall into place. I absolutely agree with Jan! Don't beat yourself up over this.. Figure out another method (re NRT's) which will work best for you, work the tools here, perhaps write up a new list of why you want to quit, keep a journal - before and during your quits, list of distractions and keep your emotional levels in check frequently. I've been there re the slip and I too suffer from depression and anxiety/panic attacks. I've incorporated more tools to cope with not just the cravings, but also for the depression and when I get hit with a panic attack. I've learned from my slips and you will too. rule no. 1 - never beat yourself up!!!! Quitting smoking is a process that must be dealt with day by day, or hour by hour especially in the beginning. Find the NRT that's right for you, and make sure you check out all the program tools to the left here. We are here for you when you need us. You'll get through this. Never quit quitting! Time, Your fellow members are right. Don't beat yourself up. Rework the program tools, readjust your quit plan and try again!
