New Quitter

17 years ago 0 70 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Went to the doctor and I'm fine. Today was harder than usual which is frusterating. I find it odd that I have no desire to smoke and would refuse a cigarette from anyone yet I'm stuck with withdrawl symptons. I was somewhat pissy today. ARGH! My cough is not going away. The last few times I quit my cough disapeared after one week. I'm finishing up week two and it's still with me. I hate this cough and hope it goes away soon. I have a sinus infection so maybe it's related to that.... Went to a bar last weekend and made it through. Not eating was harder than not smoking. I've lost 8 pounds (mysteriously gained back two pounds). Every morning I'm up really early. That is so unlike me! I've never been wide awake at 4 and/or five a.m. but since I quit I'm up every day at that time. I think when it gets lighter in the morning I'll use that time to walk three miles. I'm handling this quit so much better than I expected. So there's my update (not that anyone was asking - lol - but it got me through a rough moment). Seven days ago I came across this website and seven days later I'm still smoke free!! (Check out my mileage - go ahead!!). I hate admitting it but I've smoked a pack a day for over twenty years - ugh - that's hard to admit. I've tried all sorts of methods over the years but this time there is a big difference. For starters, I quit cold turkey. I have patches but I didn't want to use them. I wanted my body to be nic free and I actually made it through the first three days (how long it takes for the nic to be out of your system). I had been hording Wellbutrin and decided to start it. What a difference it has made for me. The benefit is I am not grouchy/snippy/angry or uncomfortable in my own skin - wow! I'm shocked and my kids are thankful (husband, too). Before I would be so nasty to my children at a drop of a hat but not this time thanks to Wellbutrin. I feel very balanced emotionally. I only have to deal with the cravings but they pass. Another difference is this web site. When I get a craving I just come here and read. It keeps my mind off of the craving while it passes. I'm also dieting at the same time. In my case, If I didn't and I gained weight, I would go back to smoking in order to lose weight. I'd tell myself "one issue at a time" and bang - I'd find my excuse to light up again. I've been smoke free for seven days and happy to say I've also lost three pounds. So for me and my situation, having tried quiting many times in the past, I've learned a lot from failing. I have such a great outlook and even though I'm not a fool and know failure is one puff away - I really think this is going to work for me this time. Even if it's the Wellbutrin talking - so be it! I'm smoke free! I have to give all the cheerful credit to Wellbutrin. I've quit a zillion times before but never used Wellbutrin. Also, I've been told that this drug is used for weightloss as well - bonus! LOL But right now I'm going thru a little health scare which is bringing me to tears (tests will determine more Monday morning). However, before I would have depended on cigarettes to get me through nervous times, sad times, etc. This time I haven't once thought about going back to smoking even though I'm so worried and concerned. It has to be the Wellbutrin. It's the only explanation. I know it doesn't work for everyone and not everyone is succussful but I'm just so thankful that I tried it because for me it's amazing stuff. Emotional balance doesn't mean I haven't thought of smoking. I'm still thinking about smoking twenty times a day. But the thought just comes and goes and I'm taking it one day at a time. Wow. Talk about looking into the mirror. I am in the exact same boat. Gone out a few times with Mates...didn't smoke. It killed me. Thought about it the whole time. Felt great and proud that I held out. Understand why we're here. For support. The posting and reading help...every time. I was friends...here with a few dudes that broke down and went back to the butts. Haven't seen them come back. YET. We all want to stop. Smoking sucks, not doubt about it. Its not easy. Time doesn't heal this deal, we do. Working at fighting this animal as a team is a pretty good deal for me. Hope it works for you. I'm here if you ever need me. Keep the faith.
