8 days...

I don't know how people can say that the cravings stop after 3-5 days. I know the bodily ones are reduced but, everytime I go to a place that I used to smoke there is a small twinge in the stomach. The stress I think is the most difficult part. It adds up all day long and each cigarette was like a small stress reliever. I think that might be just an error in judgement because after a week I do feel better mentally and physically. I just feel like there is this invisible rope around me and out of no where it will be tigtened and I will be back to my old habit. Hello everyone! the rabbit. Heh rabbit, don't give up. I am only on day 3 but if I can do it I am hoping everyone else can also. I have quit several times before, for up to a year, but this time it is definitely the hardest thing I have ever gone through. But this site is wonderful. Keep up the good work...and keep quitting. I had a pretty good day yesterday. The cravings weren't bad at all and what there were...were managable. At no point did I feel overwhelmed. The way I look at it, if there are some days when I feel more comfortable as a non-smoker, than other days... then I'm making progress. If I'm having a bad day, I can look forward to the next day...which will likely be better. I smoked many times a day for 35 years. The cravings aren't going to vanish in a week or two. It's going to take a while to feel comfortable... but if I'm already having some good days, that's very hopeful (and comforting). I know that I'm on the right track, and that I'm changing for the better. Good Morning Drose21 I know they say it takes 72 hours for nicotine to be out of your system, the cravings depend on psychological part of it. I am on day 13 and last night was one of the worst nights I had yet. Although I was really stressed from work and from my kids. But I made it through and I know that there are more good days then bad. Hang in there, you will make it. Stick by this site too, lots of good help and advise here! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 333 Amount Saved: $65 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 9 Mins: 54 Seconds: 58

Rabbit, you said you felt better physically and mentally so you know you are doing the right thing and making progress. Think of those craves as part of the healing process. Remember when you were a kid and you would fall and skin your knee or elbow? After a few days of healing it would start to itch. So look at your craves like they were an itch, that means you are healing. That itch went away and so will the craves in time. Smokers and non-smokers have good and bad days but I defy anyone to tell me they had a good day because they smoked ! Hang in there and like Phil said look forward. That's your nicotine demon whispering in your ear. Nicotine/smoking never EVER reduced your stress. Nicotine is a STIMULANT, it CAUSED your stress. You're breaking the chains - hang in there. And well done on your 8 days. hell week is over. Rabbit - I agree, the cravings don't just disappear after 3-5 days, if they did, there would be a ton of us who would've quit smoking a long time ago! I'm also struggling with the psychological part of it - the habit part. Someone on this site reminded me that I was going through the motion of bringing a cigarette up to my mouth & puffing over 30 times a day. Multiply that by drags per cigarette then times the days in my life that I smoked...I've done that behavior approx 176,000 times (and my math is probably off)!!! YIKES! It's going to take some time to practice NOT doing something that I've done 176,000 times. But, let me add this...it does get better and better each day. Every once in a while there will be bad days, but overall time really does help!
