Now for day TWO

17 years ago 0 357 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Stacey, Welcome and congrats on your quit!!! I'm only one day ahead of you so perhaps I can let you know what's around the bend. For me day 3 has been pretty much like days 1 and 2. I did notice today how much I was previously pre-occupied with smoking. I turned on the oven for dinner, saw that it would take 9 minutes to preheat and on auto pilot turned to go to the garage for a smoke (but I stopped myself once I realized what I was doing). I've been catching small triggers like this frequently over the past few days- it amazes me how hard I had to work to schedule all my smoke breaks before! We can do this!!!!!!!!!! Thank you! What great support, I'm reading through the posts for other people and surprised that this makes a difference. Having a common goal and people cheering you on, helps. You'e right I can do this. I think I have to go pull the covers over my head for a hour or two, this craving for a perfect cup of tea is giving me a headache. After the ER trip, I'm home for a couple days recovering and probably avoiding real life, to get through first couple of days. What is the new drug people are talking about?? Starts with a "C"? I have tried Wellbutrin and patches and thereapy in the past, this time I'm just doing it. I will no longer be a slave to nicotine or black tar coating my lungs. Thanks again! Today is day two for me. I found this web site about a week and a half ago, set my quit date for March 19th and quit yesterday. On Sunday I was recovering from a cold, having allergies and fighting an asthma attack all day. I threw out my last pack at about 5:00 in the afternoon and by 8:00 I was on my way to the ER because I couldn't breath. A couple hours later I was on my way home after steriod shots and a breathing treatment, I have had allergies and asthma since I was a child and never had to go to the ER. How embarrassing when they asked "do you smoke"? I'm cranky this morning, scared to make a cup of tea, because that's a trigger. I'll stick with cranberry juice and water. I've tried quitting before, those were just the trials, this time HAS to be the real thing. For myself, for my family, for my life! I hate being a victim, tied to my cigarettes, I don't know anyone that regularly smokes. I can do this!Text I have got to be stronger than a cancer stick! Good Morning Stacey Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking. You won't regret it. I sincerely hope you feel better real soon. I decided to quit when for the past two years, I have had bronchitis 3 times, have been diagnosed with Asthmatic Allergies and fought off breast cancer. I had a hard time breathing when walking up the stairs if I had a cold or the allergies flared up. Got really tired of all of it and quit smoking. I have not had to use my inhaler since the day i quit! That has to say something. This is the best site for support and advise. So many people have been where you are and can help 24/7. Keep posting, keep strong! You can do this!!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 12 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 249 Amount Saved: $60 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 7 Mins: 43 Seconds: 15

Stacy, Want some encouragement? When you read all the post...look at the peoples stats!! I remember doing that. They are all different. Some say quit 5 days..some say 40 days..some say 110 days.... BUT..... The on thing they all have in common is that they all made it past two days!! I was a two dayer once too. If us nicotine addicted people could do it.... you can too. We are just like you. In no time... you will be 10 days quit ..then 30 days quit..and will look at a new one on day 2 and be writing them saying..."You can do it" Lots of support Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 51 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,037 Amount Saved: $227.97 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 17 Mins: 22 Seconds: 9

Hi Stacey. It is day 2 for me as well. So welcome. You can do this and your trip to the ER should be a good motivator. Just get through the next minute then the next and so on. Try not to look ahead too far. It is long trip with lots of rewards along the way. Just take it one step at a time. Good Luck PRB My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 44 Amount Saved: $4.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 6 Mins: 54 Seconds: 39

YOU CAN DO THIS STACEY! It requires a couple of weeks of sheer stubborness and determination - then things get remarkably easier. It's great that you already realise what your triggers may be and act accordingly - you're on your way. Good luck, we'll be right here with you! The new medication is Chantix. I'm using Chantix and it's been very very helpful. And, it's not a nicotine replacment - so there isn't the nicotine withdrawal to go through again when you go off it. Anyway, everyone has to do what's right for them! By the way, I slept through the first few days of my quit - so enjoy naps whenever you need them! Stacey - So glad you're here with us! Today will most likely not be a fun one for you - but you'll get through it! As I'm sure you know - drink gallons of water today, have sugarfree gum & candy nearby, keep busy as a bee, and post here often. A piece of advice/info that I read about here has been really helpful - You have more cravings as a smoker than a non-smoker! As a smoker, you're constantly thinking about, wanting, and plotting your next smoke. Withdrawal/cravings start within 20 minutes of finishing a cigarette. You don't have to go through that anymore!!! Keep in touch!
