I want to be smoke free.

WOW, this is good stuff.....Thanks for the welcoming support and encouragement. I have had my last cigarett tonight, I will say a prayer asking for help to make it my last one for my remaining life time. Tonight my youngest son had a friend over, while talking with his mother I found out that she is 2 months smoke free, I took that as a sign of support. She too has gained 2 dress sizes yet she did not give in to the demon. While taking my evening bath I realized that even though I hate the way I look right now I know it does not have to be perminent. Once I have my mind straight and my addiction under control I can address my physical appearance. I plan to tell myself that I choose to be smoke free, I like the advice about getting mad. As long as I get mad at the addiction and remind myself not to get mad at my family and friends. Jaset said, "Dont be a lady". I like that, I can be a real B**** when I need to be and I know I have to be to get to my goal of smoke free by summer. Here I go ramblin again. I will check in tomorrow. Thanks again to my new group of support, stay close I tend to need alot of guidence when it comes to doing what is best for me. Good Night to all. Debbie

I am a 42 year old female, happily married for 20+ years, I have 3 children. I work full time in the public school system, and I am going to college, 2 courses each quarter. I have also been remodeling our home for the past 2 years. Thats a brief overview of me. I decided to stop several months back, I used nicotine lozengers for the first few days, then went it on my own for a month, I was being successful. Unfortunately I slowly have regressed back to my old habits. My goal is to be smoke free by summer, I would love to help coach one of my childrens ball teams. My relaps started as I started gaining weight, to be successful I know I need to incorporate an excersice program, or buy loads of more cloths......I have 3 cigeretts in my possesion and they will be gone by the end of today. My goal is to start again 12/31/06, I want to start 2007 smoke free! Thanks for any suggestions and your support. Debbie

Hi deb! I tried everything to help quit. The gum, patches, pills, lozinges, even got hypnitized. Nothing seemed to be the one for me. My husband and I decided just over 12 days ago to go cold turkey. It is the hardest thing I have done but I am actually doing it this time. There has been a lot of crying, fighting and yelling but it only last a short time then it is good again. I know I will gain weight but the extra eating is only temperary. I will worry about losing that once the nicodemon is out of my body and head. Which is the worse of the two. An extra couple pounds isn't going to kill me but my cigarettes would. Good luck and hang in there. Post often and let us know how your doing...... Hello Deb, So you wanna be smoke free by the summer? Well, you just took your first step. I have to be honest with you. My quit was unique in many ways. I got pissed off and I am still pissed off. Perhaps you should try it. Every time I seen a but on the ground i stopped and jumped on it and cursed it out. I used words that were not plesent. I wrote nasty letters to R.J. Reynolds Co. Funny, they sent me coupons for money off on winston cigs. So i sent the coupons back with writen words on the coupons. I took my quit and got real pissed. I wont look back either. I send them letters once a week now. Yes, I gained some weight also, but thats ok, my wife tells me, " i have more to love now". But Deb, get pissed off. Dont be a lady with your quit, get down right mad and keep that attitude. The attitude that cigs will kill you!! And when u feel comfortable with your quit, get even more pissed off. With every urge you get, sware at the urge and curse out the tabaco prouducts. I want as far as calling R.J. Rynolds just to speak my mind! Its killing you honey! Kill it back! Welcome Deb, You've come to the right place for information, support and the most caring bunch of people that you'll ever find in cyber space! I'm 42 years old also, married for 13 years, 1 child and work full time in the school system. Seems to me that everything becomes a little bit harder as we get older. You know like, losing weight, exercising, etc. I doubt smoking is any different. BUT I can tell you that it is worth it!!!!! Read everything you can here on SSC, there are lots of wise souls here that have beat this addiction happily! Again, welcome! Good for you, Debbie! Sounds like you have some wonderful reasons to quit! Keep that list of reasons close by to review when you feel a bit weak! You CAN do it...there are a lot of us here that have! I was a 3 pack a day smoker for 34 years (**whisper**and I am a youngster here!) So, you can do it, too! Stay close and stay strong! Hello, and welcome to the site. To be smoke free you have to really want to quit. Then you start off doing it minute by minute and day by day. I have had several attempt at quitting and feel I have made it this time. I have done the meds, the patches, the gum, you name it I have tried it as long as it was legal :eg: What has worked for me this time and I did try it last summer but wasn't ready to quit was reading Allen Carr's book Easy Way to stop Smoking. It is working this time. I am doing this cold turkey. Jaset said to get mad as hell, then do that. What the tabacco companies have done to us awful. I am doing this cold turkey and it is by far the easist quit I have had. Although I have had other quits, it helped me know what was going on so I was able to handle it this time. Use this site ask questions, vent, share, read. We will be here for you at anytime you need help. Oh yes, we will accept your support too ;) Happy New Year My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 195 Amount Saved: $57 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 14 Mins: 39 Seconds: 16

Hi Deb ! You sure sound busy, but also you sound as if you are at the point where smoking no longer suits the life you want to lead. That's terrific, it will help you keep your head up instead of down, positive attitude is the best way to go. Kids and work and school have a funny way of keeping us in line and keeping us from smoking! I am happy for you that you've made the decision not to smoke anymore, choosing life is the better option. We're here for support so let us know by way of checking in ~ let us know how things are going for you!
