The Junkie Within

Back when she was young, she used to do gymnastics. It was second nature to her. She didn't have to think twice about how to do a round-off, or even a double flip. She had a fantastic routine on the uneven parallel bars all the way through the dismount. Over the years, she strayed from practicing, eventually dropping it altogether. Years later, she realized how much she missed it. She's been working at it for more than nine months now. She started off slowly, learning the basics all over again. She struggled almost daily. Even though these used to be very routine exercises for her, she still struggles. Finally, she can do the more basic things as a matter of fact. She doesn't have to think about how to place her feet for a round up. But she does still have to concentrate on sticking the landing after a flip. And the unevens? She's getting used to them, but finds she still needs a spotter, just in case. ~bugg huggs~ Psst...the SSC makes a good spotter, dontcha think? :p Keep practicing, we'll be here to make sure you land on your feet! Wow, some of the most eloquent writing I've ever read is right here in this thread. Sorry I wasn't around for you earlier today, Lady, but sounds like you got a lot of help! As the older ones have said, yes, the junkie in us every now and then rises from his/her slumber and growls. It isn't like the first week or even the first month. It isn't something to obsess over or fret over. Just nod to the junkie, acknowledging that you will always be an addict, but affirming that YOU will always stay in control. And like Lolly said, let's all not forget to reward ourselves for a job well done. Rusty :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/13/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 482 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,516 Amount Saved: $1687 Life Gained: Days: 66 Hrs: 9 Mins: 40 Seconds: 50

Hi Lady, BTW. Many Congratulations for the Hall of Fame!!!! I'm at 500 days, and I can tell you those days still come around now and again. The good thing is they come around less often now. The main time I get this feeling is when I have completed a particularly difficult thing, whether it be digging the garden or working out something on the computer. I find myself standing up and feeling I should be doing something, then I realise it's smoking! Having a cigarette was my reward at the end of every task. I think as we get farther down the road in our quits, we tend to stop rewarding ourselves for a bloody good quit! I know I did for a while, and those moments kept happening. Now I remember to give myself the odd reward just to satisfy the reward centres in the brain.........I promise you it works! As for owning your quit!!!! You have done that from day 1....if you remain strong, as you have, it is yours alone, no matter how often the inner junkie has a go! You are going through the normal stages and honesty is always the best policy either in private or here in public. It helps others to know what can lie down the road awhile! You have a great quit Lady. I hope you get some peace from that pesky Nicodemon soon! Lolly. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/25/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 500 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 17,519 Amount Saved: 2500 Life Gained: Days: 69 Hrs: 15 Mins: 26 Seconds: 41

Lady, Your stats are incredible and you should be proud! The members have given out some great knowledge and support. Choose what you need and keep it to heart. Your determination and drive will keep you going. Everyday will not be a good one, but you can make it a better one. Work on your confidence and self esteem and become an even better you. Everyday is a precious gift and you will have many more years of this gift, because you made the right choice. You do have it in you, just tap into it :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.

Lady, Honesty is where it is at! You are normal and this can be expected. Your honesty and experience can help others and yourself learn that this is an ongoing addiction. Do what it takes to protect your quit! Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
