Hi Super, I know what you are going through, and I wouldny mind betting almost everyone here at ssc has been through the same thing. I have honestly lost count of the times I tried to quit. But each time I have learnt something which I have taken with me to my next attempt. I takes time, well it did for me, but it is all valuable information. Be aware of what made you slip this time and dont let it happen next time. Sure you have to make changes. In my experience to quit smoking is not just no longer smoking, there are a whole heap of other things I have had to change. Surprisingly it worked very well. My theory is that if you remove one thing from your life you will miss that one thing, and you will focus on that one thing. Its easy to focus on it because it is the only thing that has changed and you are feeling crappy. What I did this time and so far it has been succesful, is to change many things. I have changed my whole lifestyle. I stopped smoking. I stopped caffiene. I stopped alcohol. I stopped junk food. My body was so confused !!! but it worked. I guess my system was so shocked that it didnt know what it was missing most. I started eating healthy meals three times a day, hell, I even eat breakfast, now this was a new and unheard of concept and it has worked wonders. I exercise now too. Nothing too taxing but certainly much more than I did before. I also changed small things in my daily routine just to confirm to myself that things were different now. simple things like sitting in a different place to eat meals. taking a different route to work. answering the phone with the other hand. These changes my become permanent, who knows ? But in the first instance I have told myself that they are temporary. I love a tall cold beer as much as anybody, but I know that this is a trigger for me and so in the meantime I have stopped drinking ( well apart from a glass of red wine now and then) I'm not trying to preach or say my way is right, but it has worked for me and perhaps you can take a few thing from it which may help you. I know only too well how you are feeling and I offer my sympathy. Learn from the past and makes changes so that the same thing does not happen again. By the way...I feel totally amazing !!! these changes have literal

second time in as many weeks??? here's a short story that has been around a while...you might glean something from it Five Short Chapters on Change by: Author Unknown, Source Unknown Chapter 1 I walk down a street and there's a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. It takes forever to get out. It's my fault. Chapter 2 I walk down the same street. I fall in the hole again. It still takes a long time to get out. It's not my fault. Chapter 3 I walk down the same street. I fall in the hole again. It's becoming a habit. It is my fault. I get out immediately. Chapter 4. I walk down the same street and see the deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it. Chapter 5. I walk down a different street. Sometimes we just need to "change" our behavior?? For most of us a couple of beers can represent a very real threat to an infant quit. I am not try to criticize you....just help you see that you need to make some changes in what seems to be a stumbling block for you? good luck! Don't you DARE leave here.....while it gets discouraging when we flounder and fall, it doesn't mean you CAN"T succeed. You need to improve your plans and stiffen up your commitment. You CAN do this! don't ever be disappointed at how few replies you get here....the threads sometimes go down on the list quickly when there is a lot of posting going on....it doesn't mean that no one cares!! EVERYone here cares....and they care a LOT too. You are justifiably feeling down about your slips.....the junky in you will just love to keep you feeling that way....it almost assures that at some point you will give in and smoke (thinking what the hell, no one cares and it will make me feel better???) Don't fall for that trap. Quitting brings on all sorts of emotions....sometimes weeping, sometimes anger, sometimes we become almost manic depressive. Sometimes our "other" personalities come out!(my kids called me Sybil for a time) LOL Never think that someone doesn't know what you are experiencing....cause lots of quitters go through lots of different symptoms....and there are LOTS of quitters around here. You will be understood by someone, no matter WHAT you do.....(and there are people to help you hide the bodies too ;p ) so hang right in here....it will all come together Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1780 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 71,237 Amount Saved: $10146 Life Gained: Days: 232 Hrs: 7 Mins: 4 Seconds: 49

Super, You have received lots of advice, take what you need and use it! You are capable of doing this and we are always here to support and not judge :) Prepare yourself for those situations that will tempt you and stay clear of them. Keep yourself occupied and grab a hobby if necessary. Keep Strong, Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team.
