Had to take a detour

You know sometimes that stuff takes a while to kick in so it's worth sticking with it for a few weeks. Sometimes something else can be prescribed to help with the adjustment side-effects. Sorry to hear that you're suffering, but glad to see that you are taking care of yourself, looking at the big picture and serious about this quit. Post often, even when you don't feel like. Hi, I'm glad you were able to identify that you did have a problem and sought help. Speaking from experience, allow the med's to kick in - some take up to 3weeks, some even longer.. and please be kind to yourself. Take it one day at a time re the depression and when you feel comfortable with yourself then take on the quit again. Don't get all stressed out .. don't add more to your plate .. sounds pretty full already. We'll be here when you do return. ((((((((((((((hugz)))))))))))))) of support... Tennielle, I'm proud of you for going 3 weeks. Depression can be pretty hard to deal with when you first quit smoking. I hope your doctor gets your medication right so that you can quit again soon. When you do, we will be here waiting. I want you to read this. It's a post that Shevie wrote for another member who was going back to smoking for a while. Read Shevie's words and I want you to do EXACTLY what he says here EACH time you smoke a cigarette. K? "During your brief hiatus from quitting I want you to do something for yourself. I want you to examine every cigarette you smoke. Why are you smoking it? Is it helping? Is there something else you could/should be doing right now? Also, notice the details of smoking: the heat of the cig between your fingers and on your lips. Notice the heat of the smoke as it goes into your mouth and down your throat. Notice the sting of the smoke in your eyes. Before you inhale, let a bit of smoke out and notice its color. Then notice the difference in the smoke's color as you exhale. Remind yourself that the change is because something was left behind, in you, coating your lungs. Do that at least twice with every cig you smoke and remember that it happens with each drag. Also remember that what is left behind is infusing itself into every cell of your lungs, altering their structures to set the stage for COPD, altering their DNA to set the stage for lung cancer. Every drag. Don't worry about your slip. You do as I asked and your slip will be temporary, I assure you. And please do not say goodbye. You don't have to be quit to be here. You just have to want to be. IMO, as long as you desire to be smoke-free, then you are trying to quit. Trying is good enough for me." Tennielle, I think part of what happened here is that the longest you'd ever made it before was 3 weeks, and I think that sort of played in your mind when you decided to smoke. Am I right? If so, I think you're still having problems with overthinking the quit. When you're REALLY ready to quit, all other matters that may seem like downsides of quitting won't matter anymore because the thing you want (quitting) is more important than all the relatively minor things that might seem unpleasant at th

Well this isn't good news. I made it 3 weeks. Then I found myself in such a dark, black mood and couldn't get out of it. I smoked. Yesterday I had to call my doctor and change my medications. Quitting smoking didn't bring on this recent bout of depression, it's been brewing awhile. I guess it just pushed me over the edge. I should have been on something before I attempted quitting. I am on something new right now and not sure if I like this med. I feel terrible. I told her I would give it a week though and then I go see her. Thanks all for your support. I read the posts here most everyday (didn't always log in) and it helped me through the three weeks I did come. Tennielle

Thank you all for your kind words and support. I will be back to quitting smoking soon. As soon as my meds stabalize. I am doing something different this time. This is not the first time I've had a round with the big D. I know the warning signs for me and will never let it get the best of me. The difference this time is I started working out also. I've never intentionally exercised in my entire life. I'm a slim petite person so never felt a reason to. I was in track in highschool, but that was just running and well that was 11 years ago :). So I got a friend who started today with me to go at 6am on our days off. About 3 to 4 days a week. I must say I already feel better. We'll see what happens. My appointment with my Dr. is Wednesday. A bad side effect of this med is everytime I yawn I feel like I'm gonna gag on my tongue. Weird chills too. I hope they subside. They are minimul this morning, but we'll see after I take my next dose. Thanks again for caring and I'll be back to the quit before long. Tennielle

I feel what you are going through right now, and it is not easy. I have done it a few times. Sometimes we have to practice to get it right. I know that you will be back when the time is right, and we will be here for you when you get back. Take care of you.
