it's been a bad few days..trying to cope

17 years ago 0 985 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Well it's another day. I got a good night's sleep.. that long hot shower and the movie were quite helpful to take my mind off things. Today is a new day - unfortunately not feeling all that confident in myself. I wrote up a whole new list of things, a few changes to my techniques.. i.e. my crave cart will be filled with all healthy items.. pulled out my cd disc player, threw in new batteries and am buying new headset for it (will use it on walks and while sitting/relaxing here at home) another method of tuning out .. will be stepping down from 14 mg patch to 7 mg patch (sounds weird - grasping at straws here, I think that with the infusion of the nicotine it is giving me the crave to have one.. will try the 7 mg and see what happens) .. going off of all caffiene (I need my coffee especially in the a.m., but will go with the instant decaf) .. There are a few other things that I'll be doing as well, but the above are the most drastic. Thanks everyone.. Have yourselves a wonderful weekend. I'll be on and off a few times over the weekend. I have a lot of 'me' things to do today and tomorrow. :) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 507 Amount Saved: $225 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 18 Mins: 20 Seconds: 4

Dear Monica, I can identify with the feelings you're describing. For 30 years I smoked, and I realize that all those years I had been "sucking it up!" whenever I had anger, sadness, or any of the more negative emotions. So, now when I get overwhelmed with the panic you're describing, I (am not kidding) scream as loud as I can into a pillow. Scream and scream it out!!! until I feel some calm. Try to let family and pets know you're not losing your sanity, but that you're blowing off steam. Also, I have been lucky to be able to cry it out when it comes up. I have a job where I work with another women who understands. I get waves of feelings and I cry it out and it passes. The feelings do pass. I think they need to come up and be let out. I cannot believe the amount of crying I've been doing these past few months. Big, giant tear-drops! A friend of mine who quit smoking 3 years ago described it as "thawing". It helps me to talk to other women. None of the men I know who have quit smoking in the past can identify at all with this crying stuff, and talking to them makes me feel like I am losing my mind. My quit date was September 7 of this year. I'll have 90 days smoke-free on December 7! We can do this, girl! And don't we smell great? Peace out! Give yourself some time, Monica. You have a great quit going and it will get better and better with more time. I still felt pretty blah in week 2 and 3 but I am now approaching week 6 and definitely beginning to notice a difference in my outlook. I sort of felt like I was a worthless human being for a while there and now, my brain chemistry is beginning to fool me into believing it isn't true! Lock arms with the rest of us and keep on trudging along. Just a storm you're going through. The sky is clearing up ahead. Monica - You have done everything right...you are just going through a rough patch right now. Now is the time that you have to be very gentle with yourself (a walk and coffee at the park were a perfect idea). This week, I've been on the verge afew times and I really had to push myself to go out and do something physical (for me, exercise really helps to stave off the depression) If you are tired, nap - You have been fighting an awesome battle - it's no wonder you are tired. We go through these times during our quit...but they do pass. Smoking didn't make those feelings go away. Take care of yourself Monica...lots of us here to hold your hand along the way. Monica, you are doing awesome! I know you're going through a very rough period right now. And you're riding it out. You're posting, getting rest, exercise, and a movie is a great idea. You hang in there, there's a light at the end of this tunnel.
