Hanging on

I am in day three and think i am doing good. I started out with the patch for day 1. When i took it off after the 1st 24 hours I didnt put another on. It seems the same to me, same cravings as I had with it. I have been sleeping and eating a lot. My cravings come and go but no matter what i tell myself no. There are so many rewards for stopping and I just have to think of those and all is cool. On the negative though i seem really spaced out at times. I hope this goes away because I cant be spaced out at my job when i go back to work on 11-24-6.

Hi Skin and Welcome! I too had the spacey feeling that you describe and Josie explained has to do with carbon monoxide withdrawals; golly who'd have thought stopping poisoning yourself would make you feel so disconnected, but it does, slowly, go away. It sounds like you have a good plan for coping, and now that you found us, you are all set! Congratulations for setting out on the road to freedom! Skin hound, you are doing so very well. There is nothing that you described that none of us go through. It WILL pass. Sleeping and especially eating were the same for me also.... instead of eating junk i made sure i had good foods around. Foods like fruit and veg, lots and lots of water helped. Mints. Stay strong skinhound. PrincessC :) x

The spacey feeling is normal. I had it for almost two weeks after my quit. I think I read somewhere (probably this site) that it has to do with the toxins leaving your brain, and getting better oxygen flow to your brain. And the eating and sleeping are both normal too. It will pass! :) Three days is AWESOME! Keep it up! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 214 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,295 Amount Saved: $609.9 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 18 Mins: 2 Seconds: 41

Skinhound....feeling spaced is your brain on oxygen instead of carbon monoxide!! ;) Day three is when the physical cravings peak....nicotine withdrawal is at it's worst the first three days.....after that your blood stream has wiped out the most of it. (you may have an extra day in here since you were using NRT that first day) Whatever you do...don't give in....the only way past the cravings are "through" them. Just remain committed and determined.....withdrawal DOES pass!! Hang on! and don't forget to reward yourself! Skin, Welcome and know that you are doing great! This indistinct but annoying symptom is linked with carbon monoxide withdrawal. It gives a sense of being in "another dimension." It can include changes in distance and space perception, a floating feeling, and a total lack of concentration. Remember that carbon monoxide is a deadly poison - it is a good thing to get out of your system. How long will this last? The first few weeks after quitting. Tips to help: Plan your workload to account for your temporary lack of concentration. Avoid additional stress during the first few weeks. If you have a symptom that persists or seems worse than you expected, you should immediately consult a doctor. Its possible that your smoking has been masking symptoms of some illness, and when you stop smoking the symptoms abruptly become noticeable. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
