Well, I did it! Check out that quit meter will you...
I have lurked here for many, many months. I have set quit dates at least 20 times. I knew I had to quit, but could not convince myself that I wanted to quit. My wife is quitting with me as well. I am her enabler. She can go a week without smoking if we are apart from one another, but smokes with me all the time.
I finally spoke to my doctor, which I have never done before, about my addiction and my desire to quit. He gave me a prescription and I started Zyban for the first time about two weeks ago. Wednesday night, decided to smoke my last cigarette. I did well yesterday. I kept some nicotine gum in my pocket just in case. I stayed away from my regular smoking buddies, drank lots of water, and chewed on a bar-sip (small red straws placed in cocktails and coffee cups)all day long.
I am supprised because even though I was missing the habit/rituals/motions of smoking, I was not thinking about needing the nicotine. The square of gum stayed in my pocket untouched. I know this is the start of day 2 for me, I hope that Zyban continues to do it's thing and keep that Nicodemon at bay.
My reward to myself for making it through the first 24 hours is to be able to post, introduce myself, and display MY quit meter. So, there you have it....
Thanks guys for all the support.
Jake
