Hi Jess - Hang on tight right now... it's tough... I pulled the covers over my head, I drank gallons of water and slept and catnapped... I called friends, I watched old movies and journaled... ANYTHING - find some distractions that will take you away and get you off the world for awhile (I always found that "away" place in the bathroom with bleach and an old toothbrush and the tile looked amazing after a couple of hours!) Go for a power walk - around the block, in a mall (my fav) or go for a drive... just do something to get your mind off of smoking. YOU are in control here, friend! Stay close to this site and read and read some more. We have all shared our journeys - go and find some coping skills and get some ideas of what will take care of YOU right now... It does get better, but worry about the present moment; don't get ahead of yourself right now... Covers over head - cry if you feel like crying... sleep... (such a wonderful and healing coping skill) ... just do not smoke. Hold on... you are doing beautifully! ~ Healer My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 244 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,541 Amount Saved: $1134.6 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 15 Mins: 39 Seconds: 51

hi jess :) I am but 3 days ahead of you, and I want to reassure you that each day becomes a bit easier. I have experienced many difficult "moments" during the last 5 1/2 days, but coming here helped get me through. As many have suggested, walking is a great substitute. Not only can you clear your mind, but your body really starts to let you know how much better it is feeling! Talk to yourself. You alone have the control over this habit. Remind yourself why you are quitting and try hard to shutout the nagging smoking thoughts. We are all here for you. Don't ever feel bad about writing often. It might just get you through those difficult moments. Take good care, Sally My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 110 Amount Saved: $21.25 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 15 Mins: 29 Seconds: 21

what do to.....just don't smoke :) Keep as busy as you possibly can...give yourself rewards OFTEN for not smoking! Rest plenty, snack often, take a walk now and then if at all possible. Keep a quit journal, keep straws to chew on, hard candies to suck on. remember.....the withdrawals DO pass.....lung cancer doesn't smoking is just simply not one of your options the quit is the prize....you have hold of it...don't let go....things will ease up in a few days....trust me....hang on.
