Hi Star I was looking up your intro post to see if you were using nrt's. However, I noticed that you are taking medication for arthritis so I don't know if this is a problem for using nrt's or medication. I haven't tried Chantix but I hear nothing but good things about it. As for the anxiety, I can SOOOOOOOOO relate to that! I used the patch, because I knew that I can only deal with one type of withdrawal at a time and I knew that my emotional attachment to cigarettes was going to be the toughest part of my addiction. For me, it was very important to focus only on one day at a time. At the beginning, the concept of forever seemed totally overwhelming. I just got through each day, and when I couldn't take it anymore, I went to bed. I am also trying to find new ways to deal with anxiety - yoga, increasing exercise, green tea, etc. and I did some reading which helped me to realize why I attributed all these "magical" qualities to cigarettes. Get rid of those smokes and jump back in...post lots...we are here for you whenever you need us! You can do this...one day at a time. Oops...didn't even register that you lost your quit on a weekend. I did the same thing....(Fraid I smoked till 2:30 in the morning on Sunday - not recommended) ....started back on Monday, Sept 11th...The next weekend wasn't easy...but at least I was prepared. Get your tool kit ready...You can do it! You're right...it's much easier to quit when we are busy and preoccupied. No big deal, Stadust! Only a small setback. :) Regroup, regain your strength and continue the battle ... :) Never quit quitting! Stardust, hang in there! I slipped last week too, and set my meter back. This is a tough addiction, and can only be handled one day at a time. One situation at a time. Don't overload your mind. I find that deep breathing really helps too. I just bought myself a quit journal, to write down my progress. Perhaps give that a try. Oh and don't forget Sparky's idea about the "smiley faces". Buy the little stickers and post one each day on the calendar. Neat little trick! All the best to you, Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/10/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 85 Amount Saved: $18 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 7 Mins: 27 Seconds: 36

Quick---throw the rest of the pack away and get back to business! The longer your return to smoking, the harder to jump back in and quit. BTW, drag out your credit or debit card and pay at the pump! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 65 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,281 Amount Saved: $520 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 18 Mins: 1 Seconds: 22

Stardust, You've experienced a slip, now it's time to learn from it! What alternative did you have in place that might have kept you from picking up a pack? What outlets for your stress and emotions have you developped? Were you rewarding yourself often enough? We are here when you want to try again. Keep persevering, Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi Stardust, your pals here are right - get right back at it and commit to the quit. It's one of the biggest commitments you will make, but hey, your LIFE depends on it. It makes me so happy to see people new to quitting rallying around each other to help ! Hi Stardust, Have you ever had a massage???? If not, REWARD YOURSELF! They are so absolutely wonderful, relaxing, stress reducing, and you feel so pampered. My chiropractor has some wonderful massage therapists that work with him. And I am so blessed, my insurance at work covers the massages! YIPEE! But, they are not THAt expensive, and totally worth the money. Get through hell week again and then reward yourself with a massage! YOu will love it. It will help your tight muscles and stress level. Peteg is right about learning from slips; but, do not look at slips too lightly. Some people smoke one cig and then can not get it back together to start their quits again. Or it starts a pattern. I've been through it. You smoke one cig in two weeks; then the next week you smoke one cig; then you smoke one cig every 2 days...what the heck, I'm not smoking 2 packs a day like I used to. It keeps one in constant nicotine withdrawal, increases the cravings, and makes the quit process harder than it already is. That is why we have the mantra NOPE...not one puff ever! It is the only way to move towards total freedom from nicotine addiction. Get back at it! YOu can do this. I expect to hear about your reward massage next week!
My anxiety level has been very high, to the point of pain because my muscle are so tight! It is all psychological I know but that doesn't make it go away.
It's not just psychological... It's also a common part of withdrawals. Read whatever you can find about the changes you go through when you stop smoking...both good and bad. Sometimes just knowing we're normal helps... and too, by knowing what to expect, you can be ready to face it. This is serious business. It's your life you're dealing with here. Do I understand that you're continuing? Hope so :) 5 brothers? :8o: two is enough for me lol Hang in there. peteg, great perspective!
