This is going to be an option Melinda. Your idea is on a list of other way to make this site better for all of us! Once it is a go, I will for sure let everyone know. Thanks for the input this really helps us help you :). Cheers, Melanie

I think of it like this. I didn't have a heart attack my blood count is fine and I felt the same way a week ago and I was fine. It's hard to believe your self but after a while you start to listen to that little voice in the back of your mind and it becomes apparent that your fine and you€™re not dieing... I'm the same way read some of my posts you would laugh one week it's a heart attack next it's bad thought next it this that the other thing. That's why I had asked if the panic diary could keep our notes so we could go back and re-read them in the future to prove to my self that I'm fine and I'm going to be fine.... Good luck:)

Thank you, it helps to know that someone is out there, I have tried various relation techniques but at the actual time they all fly out the window, My brain tells me everything is ok, it is just that it doesn't work at the time, once I have spoken to someone it usually gets better. I was running about like a demented idiot trying to find a paper bag to breathe into last night and the more I looked the less I saw. Most of my trouble is overbreathing. I think because I must sub-conciously be worrying about my illnesses I tend to freak at the least little thing that is wrong with me, I can turn an headache into a brain tumour in seconds flat! I feel so stupid afterwards. I guess I must feel vunerable, because I could not controll any illness that would strike me down without warning. Also my cousin died like that when she was thirty of a brain hemourage, I guess I still have some working out to do.Thanks for being there.

Lemondrop, Have you tried relaxation techniques? What about breathing techniques? For tonight, prepare by reducing your anxiety level as much as you can. A hot bath, some soothing music, a warm beverage can help. Tomorrow do sign up for the Panic Diary where you can record your daily level of anxiety. You can also find how helpful it is to use breathing techniques to help you deal with your panic and anxiety. The Panic Program can help you understand more and may help you go about challenging your thoughts. Hope this helps! Melanie

Lemondrop, Lord hun I know it must be difficult for you, dealing with your illnesses and panic. I see so many posts sometimes that people wish for a diagnosis of something thinking the panic will go away. My own grandmother had panic attacks and tuberculosis, beyond the point of a cure, she endured many sanitarium treatments throughout her life. But often times when she had attacks, she didnt know if it was the TB or panic and would call the doctor, after talking to him for awhile, she would feel much better and it would end up being a panic attack. Those were back in the days when doctors would make a house call if necessary, and you could call them at home-I think that is a long lost "true" practice of being a doctor. Now days, we have to wait it out for appointments, for days or weeks, or ER visits, can you just imagine the reduction in Hospital costs, if they returned to this type practicing? I think truly a very small benzo such as small dosage of Xanax, would be greatly beneficial in your circumstance with preventing your attacks to become full blown, of course with your doctors consent. Less anxiety will help you keep focused on your treatment and healthy eating lifestyle for your blood disorder. Blessings, Trish

How do I handle a panic attack when it is based on partial reality, what I mean is my panic attacks are based on a fear of illness, I don't know why, but the fact is that I have an illness or rather I have several things that are wrong with me. I have myloprolific disorder, i.e. too many platelets, and for this I have been on mild chemo for about twelve years: I have an eating disorder, i.e. I am a compulsive eater, I am working on this by self therapy; I have high blood pressure and take medication for this also; also arthritus, vertigo, tinitus and of course I have panic attacks and hyperventilate. Right at this moment I have a sore throat because I have a cold and this is sending me into a panic attack and I am hyperventilating, it is so stupid that such a little thing that I can't handle is freaking me out when all the other things I have learned to live with don't. Or is that just on the surface? I just don't know any more, I am so tired of it all. Does anyone have any ideas how I can come to terms with all this? I live in Norfolk, England.
