Being Positive

17 years ago 0 47 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hello Everyone: I have tried to quit about 7 times in the past two years and I am on the latest attempt and I am doing pretty good. I still have an urge to go buy a pack of cigarettes, but then I think how good I feel, how much easier it is to breathe, especially when walking distances, and how much money I have saved. It is not easy, at all, I go to alanon mtgs too and I take the same message "one day at a time" with me every day. It will get easier I know that, I had quit for 6 years before. Wish I never started again, but I did. I have to think of the positives of not smoking, not of the negatives (wish I could just have ONE) of smoking. To everyone out there struggling with this crazy disease also, keep on doing it, one day at a time. That's all we can do. One second at a time if necessary. Rainie: First what I did I took the dog leash to take him for a walk. Then I threw that down and just went outside and started to walk up the street. Then turned around and came back. I get like a crazy person. Then I went back in the house and spurted some things out of my mouth and then the thought came to go get cigarettes. I don't want to spend any money on cigarettes is one thing that stopped me. The other is my kids who were right there and tell me that if I smoke I will "break their heart". One time I had quit and then went back and when I showed them by lighting up, they started to cry and it did break my heart and I don't want to do that to them again. BUT- you have to quit for yourself and no one else. I guess I just knew that smoking would not help me but make me feel more like crap than I already did. Other than that I pray and do the serenity prayer a lot. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change (the cravings/the habit), the courage to change the things I can (don't smoke) and the wisdom to know the difference. Good Luck too. Thank you both for telling me how good I am doing. I often (almost always) don't give myself that pat on the back that we all need because we are all doing something so positive for ourselves and our lives (and our family who don't want us to have black lungs and die of cancer-that's what my kids always say). It is definetly helpful to come in here and see not only the posting of how many cigs not smoked (that amazes me!), but also to have support. Thank you so much! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 24 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 617 Amount Saved: $264 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 8 Mins: 11 Seconds: 45

Cassie2u, Good job getting right back to your quit! Be sure to take some time to think back as to what contributed to your slip and learn from it. Have a plan in place for when this trigger reappears. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Cassie, I am building my arsenal of weapons... could you answer a question? When you were fighting did you get that out of control feeling that you just had to have a smoke? And if so, exactly what did you do to calm yourself and start thinking smart again. The time I quit for 3 weeks I caved at these times and I want to be able to fight back this time. I am very proud of your resistance it couldn't have been easy... but you did it!

Cassie, did you try EVERYTHING in your heart before you went to buy the ciggys? I don't know about everyone else but I for one will always be your cheerleader. Please don't stop trying. Life sometimes sucks smoking or not smoking.....
