Well, MomMom suggested that we take a look back at our posts from early on in our Quit so that what's I did. After reading my post from Day 3, I have to say that I feel like wearing one of those big plastic noses with the attached glasses and mustache. That's okay though. I'll be on Day 50 in just short of 7 hours. One of my fears from Day 3 was this: And what scares me the most are all of the posts I keep reading from folks as far along in their quit as 20, 30, 40 days and more but they're still feeling this horrible. What's up with that!?!? Coming up on Day 50, I know that the cravings do still come and go. They come in waves with some being pretty intense while some are like a passing thought. Today, the cravings are a little more intense but one thing I know is that they won't last. I've learned that I'll have some bad days here and there. I have learned that boredom will bring the more intense cravings on. I think for me, I have to just go with this process of living without cigarettes without impatiently waiting for that One Fine Day when all thoughts or craves will magically be gone from my life. I know that one day, I'll have more of those passing thoughts rather than cravings. Until then, I have to be patient, strong, and just go with the flow. I hesitate to post this because most will say this is crazy and dangerous. Therefore, don't anyone try this. I'm 60 years old and been smoking for 45 years. I used the 21m patch and had a lot of the symptoms you mentioned plus extreme difficulty breathing and restricted airway like an asmatic. After 11 days I was so bad I went to the Doctor and almost ended up in ER. Suspecting withdrawal I started smoking again and was fine in 24 hours. I've read never to mix using the patch and gum together for reasons ranging from heart attack to whatever. However, I found that several studies were being done combining the two. I asked several Doctors about this and they said that this is a standard precaution because there will always be a few idiots that will overdue it. One respiratory Doctor said he thinks there's a lot of people who come off the nicotine to sudden using the 21m patch. He suggested using gum with the patch and use sparingly until finding a comfort level. My comfort level was a 21mg patch and 6)4mg gums. At this level I had no cravings or other withdrawal problems. Cutting down gradually I am now using just the patch and 1 gum a day. One thing to keep in mind is when using a 4mg gum, you're not really getting 4 mg in you. If you read the 4mg box it says; do not use more than 24 pieces a day; which would be 96mgs. Obviously if a person really got 96mgs they would either be sick or dead. Please do the research and come to you're own conclusions or ask you're Doctor. I suffered needlessly. I feel for you as I could never quit cold turkey. My wife can't use any of that stuff either and has been cutting down by 1 cigarette every few weeks. She's gone from 1 1/2 packs down to 4 ciggys a day. She has more willpower and is more regemented than me as I could never stick to a schedule like that. Whatever works, good luck! Tuttie, Hope your doing better. I caught this post late. I felt bad that you felt scared at the thought that it will continue like this for weeks. When some of us (who have been quit a week or two) complain about a hard day it isn't like what your thinking. It isn't like the very beginning of the quit. The physical is gone ALLOT... but a little bit of mental games kick in. For the most part.....it is only a couple of times a day you think about it......and it is doe-able not to have one. Then again.. you might have 3 or 4 days in a row that are great...and maybe a little harder day. I keep hanging on because I believe those that tell me...."It gets better". Why would they lie? I don't want to redoe the first three days. I don't want to redoe Hell week I don't want to redoe week 2 I don't want to reode week 3 I don't want to redoe week 4. Think of it that way. I know you don't want to redoe the first 3 days again. You did it....be proud. Pretty soon you'll have one week behind you. It will pass...honest Thinking of you Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 636 Amount Saved: $138.57 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 2 Mins: 57 Seconds: 45

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Tutti - I hope you are still hanging in there. I had a miserable day yesterday. I was depressed, fed up with being inside taking care of everybody (we'd all been sick and ended up cancelling a trip to Fla). I had cravings and aggravations that made them worse all day. I had a few moments when I might have caved because at those moments I just didn't really care! BUT I knew deep down that smoking wouldn't solve anything it would make me feel worse and somehow I stumbled through the day and night. Actually had a dream that I bummed a cig and it was done so quick I needed to have another one - that's what happens and why its so easy to get caught up. Point is - I didn't have one and I feel so much better and stronger today. You need to learn how to deal with these craves and then they will get easier! Hang in there!
