Self control

18 years ago 0 10 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
As I'm sitting here...I have scarfed down alomost an entire bag of potato chips. Last night to keep me busy I made chocolate chip cookies, a double batch and they are almost gone. I can't stop eating. I work out, but there is only so much I can do...I'm 7 months pregnant. So that rules out dieting. Before my first child, I was a size two. By the end of that pregnancy I had gained 70lbs. I lost most of it and was a four by the time I became pregant again, however I have already gained well over 40lbs and I have a ways to go. The more I eat the more I want a cigerette instead, I'm nervous I'm going to gain even more wieght with this child. I know the food is better then the smoke, I still can't help but want one. I feel like I have no self control over food right now. Golly Robyn, most of us gals would kill to be in a size 4! Make that a size 10! LOL But seriously, you would have to gain more than 100 lbs to be as bad for you as smoking, and you certainly want the baby to be as nicotine free as possible from this point on, so choosing the cookies is by far the better choice. But if you can, try to eat small, balanced meals more often. If you eat 5 or 6 small (ish) meals you won't be snacking on the really bad stuff so much. And if you cook to keep yourself busy, you can cook things like pot roast or pinto beans with ham or corned beef and cabbage; things that are meals in and of themselves that you can rapidly heat up. And cook enough to put some in the freezer in meal sized portions, then you can zap them rapidly in the microwave when you need a meal. Also, making your own beef or chicken jerky can be a great snack. They have dehydrators available now that are simple to use. That way you can put your own seasonings in and you know you aren't getting sneaky sugar and nitrites and preservatives and such. All just little ways to cut the snacking on potato chips and cookies but honestly, you can't worry too much about the weight; what with the baby AND quitting smoking. Your hormones must be all over the place at this point, so try to be NICE to you. Much better to quit smoking...and if you started off as a size 4...those extra pounds won't hurt you any. Keep on quitting....look at healthier choices as you get further in your quit...But sometimes, I do believe, we need a little comfort food! Robyn, You have the control of not smoking and that is first! You seem to know what you are doing, if you got back to your pre-body after you gave birth, this is commendable! Take the time to prepare your good food and veggies and snack on that. Use the good stuff for a reward later on during the week. You are doing a great job and you will have lots of others things to keep you occupied, so stay strong and let us help :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
