Help! First Friday and Saturday night in my quit

18 years ago 0 30 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thanks to everyone for your posts. It is Monday at 12:45 PM and still not smoking. I am sure due in large part to the fact that I abstained from alcohol! (Which I will do for at least another monthn or two, maybe for good who knows). The weekend was easier that this monday? I guess the psycologoical triggers are causing them. Thanks again. This is the first weekend. I quit last Saturday night, so I have not experienced the weekend activities without smoking. Besides limiting alcohol consumption, any ideas for maintaing my quit? Thank!!! Sorry TonyS, I'm just so excited to be smoke free...that I forgot the moral of my story.......there is life as a nonsmoker....and it's GREAT!!! One day...one crave...and one trigger at a time.....YOU can do it!! And we are here for you! TonyS, I just finished my first basketball tournament with my 11 year old son, as a nonsmoker. In the past, I was the one going out during half time, hiding in the bushes, or sneaking around trying to get off of school grounds to drag a cig, before the 6 minutes was up and the second half began. This weekend....I DID NOT SMOKE. I was sooooo relaxed and was able to participate in all the "parent" gossip and replay of the previous basketball plays. I have to tell you. It was a great feeling. Did I have cravings...yes. Did I smoke....NO. Did I still cheer my son on and have a great time and live to tell about it smoke free.....YES!!! One day at a time TonyS....it is sooooo worth it. Having a smoke wouldn't have changed not one moment of the the basketball tournament....but not having one....kept my voice at optimum level to cheer him on!!!! TonyS, You know, that thought has also crossed my mind. I'm totally a social drinker (never drink alone, always with friends), and the thought has crossed my mind that it may very well be possible that I will be drinking much less than in the past to protect my quit. I don't think this is a bad thing. It's not something I set out doing, but have found myself not ordering that extra pitcher in order to protect my quit. In the past, the more you drink the more you smoke, the more you smoked in the evening, the more you drank...they went hand and hand. Now that I don't smoke...I don't have the need to drink as much...it's actually kind of weird, but then I'm not sure I'm completely normal...LOL My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 34 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 760 Amount Saved: $187 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 1 Mins: 7 Seconds: 30

Do something different. The mall sounds good or a movie. Stay busy with a project. Go to bed early. Don't feel obligated to do anything or respond to anything - You're busy quit'n. Allow your self to get emotional but be nice to those around you. Avoid your old smoking spots and all smoking associations, for now. Re-arrange furniture if necessary so you don't associate your environment with smoking. This site can get slow on the weekend, but stay on it. Read old posts (sp?). Post new posts. Don't listen to your head when it tries to talk you into smoking. If that starts, get away. The crave will pass. Do push ups, run a mile, stand on your head (only with a dr.s note ). Realize that this can be tough. It's a war and you're the winner. Act like the hero that you are. Fight the fight to earn it. :eg: My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/19/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 198 Amount Saved: $95 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 19 Mins: 53 Seconds: 8

gonnadoit! - I Love it. You are right, it is holiday time. Some people are in a position to celebrate it (I know that in the past at times I have just waited for it to pass). If you want a sappy movie, some people are amazed at the number of productions there are of the Christmas Carol - don't forget the Henry Winkler production and the Muppets, and watch every one in between (including the originals). This time of year can be very depressing for people either lost within themselves for various reasons or suffering a recent loss. If you are not in this boat this year, get going on gonnadoit!'s recomendation. Just Do It!!!!!!! P.S. I knew that Foldger's and Halmark commercials were sappy for me, but tonight I had a new one (my 11 year old son laughed at me (I'll keep trying to persuade him)). Have you seen the one with the babies from obviously different cultural backgrounds? They are sleeping innocently, peacefully. At the end it just says "Peace" and it's by Pampers. I hardly ever watch TV, but I wanted to see the christmas shows.
