Does Ativan work?

Hi and Thank you to both of you for replying. I am so glad to know that it does work but my doctor said that if I put the ativan under my tounge? it should work within 5 minutes. I really hope she is not lying to me. I do have a person that goes everywhere with me but now that is not even helping as all I want to know is if I have an attack? will the ativan work? I am 34 years of age now and my panic attacks started when I was 13, then went away and then came back full force after I had my child. I am so scared of taking my child out and having an attack and then not been able to look after her. Do any of you ever feel like that? Again, please any one else with experience about ativan, let me know how it works? God Bless Debby

Debby, sorry to hear that you are having a hard time right now. Yes, I've taken Ativan for a while now, just when I need to, and it does work fast! I can feel it in 15 minutes. I can and do drive on it just fine. It made me a little drowsy at first, but it really works to keep my mind of panic when it gets bad. Sometimes I can go a week or so and not take any, but I've been taking 2 a day while switching my other meds as they were making me speedy. Another thing, get that picture of yourself running around going bananas out of your head and replace it with an image of you just standing there doing fine. Sometimes when we create an image in ours heads, our minds bring it into reality. So only 'see' yourself succeeding, if you start to see yourself going nuts, STOP that thought and immedatily replace it with one of you doing just fine. Try the Ativan at home at first, in case it makes you drowsy, but it really works for me and I have no side effects from it. Good luck and keep on trying!

Hi Debbie, If your doctor has prescribed you Ativan then it is safe to take. Can a family member or a friend go out with you today? If the Ativan does not work then you can have someone with you that you trust to take care of you if you have a PA. If you have any questions with regards to Ativan, please call the pharmacy where you received your prescription. You pharmacist will and can give you information of the drug you are taking. Hope this helps :). Melanie

Hi All. I am new to this site and have found it very handy but I still am afraid that if I go out alone then I will have a HUGE panic attack and go hysterical. I actually have this image of me, running in circles and going banannas. I spoke with my therapist and she gave me ativan, 1 mg to keep in my bag and she said to take one if I cant handle anything at the time and to put it under my tounge as it works fast. Now here is my problem or should I say "what if?" :confuse: If I go hysterical? then how fast does ativan work???, or, if I am alone and have a full blown panic attack, will the ativan work???? Can I still drive if I take an ativan????? Will it stop me from feeling like I will go hysterical??????? :(.Oh my word people if only I could get the answers to these questions then I think I would be able to drive again, or not. Please, any of you on ativan, please help and tell me the truth. I have not tried one yet as I have not left the house alone :8o: Thank you. It is so wonderful to be part of this great site. God Bless
