Glad I could help. You have my email and IM addresses... feel free to contact me anytime you want to chat. As far as accepting the quit, yes, that took some time for me too in fact, I'm not sure I'm there all the time. :confuse: I mean, yes, I'm happy that I have quit, but sometimes, I start to think "maybe this is NOT what I want afterall!" I had one of those periods a few weeks ago and sometimes, it's hard to look past the current situation to truly see the better good here. But that's what quitting is - the better good. And in your heart, you know that, but sometimes, convincing your mind of it when you're low and having a rough time, isn't easy. The best thing you can do is go about your daily routime and if there's a time in the day when you notice that you haven't had the desire to smoke in a while, conciously make a mental note of it. And try to see how often these times happen. You said when we chatted that you have struggled the entire time, but I bet that there have been many times when you have NOT struggled... but when you're in one of those struggling times, it's hard to remember the times that you didn't struggle. But by conciously noting those times and embedding them into your memory, you arm yourself with a comeback to the junkie thinking "I'M ALWAYS CRAVING! I ALWAYS WANT A CIGARETTE!!!" When the reality is that you probably don't... you just THINK you do because those are the times that you notice... not all the times that you DON'T. So try this exercise out a few times and see if that doesn't help you to recognize the easier times more often. Hang in there Stormy. You'll get there... one day at a time. :) Crave the Quit! Mr. Ed and Pam, Thank you both for your prompt response to my earlier post the other day. Although the weekend was a bit trying, I am still hanging in there. I feel as if something evil has had ahold of me and for now, I am sitting in the corner licking my wounds. Having said this, I have NO idea where that came from. :confuse: There is however, one thing I see that needs addressing. That is acceptance. A part of me simply refuses to accept this quit. I don't know how to change this, but it is quite a stumbling block for me. Penguin, thank you for your encouragement. Danielle, Sorry I missed your IM invite. :( Have a wonderful day. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 140 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,124 Amount Saved: $525 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 20 Mins: 56 Seconds: 26

I am glad you are pulling through. I find my quit hard to accept as well. It is the longest I have quit, however, while I find myself thinking less and less about smoking, it is still a daily thought. When will this feeling of "freedom" begin? Ho hum... still smoke free in Tennessee :| My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 87 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,379 Amount Saved: $696 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 0 Mins: 14 Seconds: 5

Hi Stormy, I once read a post from somebody here who said that they did not feel comfortable with their quit until they experienced all 4 seasons, ie one full year of quitting. I accepted that this would be the case for me and my way of thinking was 'so if this year is going to be difficult for me, it is well worth it in the long run'. That has been my philosophy up until now. I have quit for 9 months and I am now feeling rather comfortable with it. Stormy, you are half way to where I am. At that stage of my quit, I had periods of doubt, but kept on hanging in. BELIEVE ME IT IS WORTH IT!! Also remember that most of us experience down moods from time to time; this is not necessarily anything to do with smoking. take care Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 294 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,834 Amount Saved: 2205 Life Gained: Days: 49 Hrs: 2 Mins: 16 Seconds: 34

Stormy, Keep taking one step at a time. I am one of those quitters that took a long time to "accept" my quit. The day will come. Personally, I look back and think it was so hard and took me so long because that is what it took for me to hang on for dear life. The not wanting to go back to the enslavement of smoking and never wanting to repeat those first couple of months again. I am finally free and comfortable. But it took a lot to get to where I am. With every month that passes, it gets easier. You just have to hang on tight. The emotions that have to be dealth with upon quitting were the hardest thing for me. There are days I still want to hide from my feelings but that just isn't possible now. Just don't quit quitting. Smoking just isn't worth it. Stormy I'm just going to read into the posts, and assume you are tired and fighting and just want it to be over. I'm sure I'll be there one day and I have had anxious thoughts already about feeling that way. This weekend there was a post from duffis about being where we are in life and accepting that we are there. It is a journey we are on, and it brought to mind my son's first year of life. Now there was a lot of up's a downs, twists & turns, lows and highs. I went through each day because I had too. I'll admit there was times when I wanted to give him back. But, of course, I didn't - I continued on. I guess what I'm saying is I'm trying to apply that situation to this quitting situation. We just keep moving forward. Somedays you want to give up and somedays you want to scream HOORAY!. Such is life. Hang around for the ride a little bit longer. Believe those who have gone before. It will get better. I'm bettin on it. Stormy, You will get there! You have had some great support along the way and we are always here for you. This feeling is normal and will pass in time. Throw yourself into an activity or hobby.
