Quit smoking books

I am new still to quitting, I have only 9 days in and its been rough. I go to art school in florida and smoking was the one thing I did when I painted. Well, I'm starting to feel the effects and control smoking had on me. I'm having to learn how to do things without smoking a cigarette. I went to the bookstore and bought 4 books on quitting smoking. They are all written by different people so the perspectives are all different. Well, when I go to bed I pick up one of those books and read for about an hour before I go to sleep. It helps a lot with the cravings and makes me realize that I'm doing the right thing. I still have a long ways to go before I will be happy again, but its all about the adjustment to my new lifestyle is what is the hardest. I read only one book at a time, but it really does help-makes you know you're not alone. Hi artist. Good for you. We all have to learn what works. Each of us have our own things we have put into place. You are doing great. I have read a couple of good books in the past too. artist You are doing the right thing. Stopping smoking is an emotional, physical and spiritual journey. The greatest weapon that you have in this fight is your determination to walk the whole road. Your determination will lead you to seek knowledge about the addiction. The knowledge that you gain will lead you to take action and develop coping skills that work for you. That is the trinity of the endeavor...determination...knowledge...action. We as smokers knew little about our addiction. This is a testament to the strength of the malady. We have been so taken by it that we have ignored all rational thought concerning smoking and continued to invite it into our lives even though we were engaging slow suicide. You have now partially removed the blinders and are focusing on the goal. You are seeing the light of day in this matter for maybe the very first time. Have faith that YOU CAN DO THIS. The addiction will tell you in a very loud voice that you can not, that is one of the first lies that we have all believed. The junkie in us all searches for reasons for us to continue to fuel the fire of addiction. It tells us that we need nicotine for all kinds of strange and wonderful reasons such as "without it we can't concentrate", "we lack energy", it will help us "deal with a strongly emotive situation such as death, divorce, sickness or any number of other travails that we go through as humans. Don't be fooled, there is no reason on earth that you ever must suck down chemical laden smoke again. Keep learning, you will come to know a you that is most amazing indeed... Stay well and strong nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 81 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,961 Amount Saved: $567 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 4 Mins: 29 Seconds: 27

artist, A huge congratulations on making it through that first week. I know the journey can be tough in the beginning. You just have to be tougher, and well prepared. And your books are a great start!!!! It does get easier with time and the feelings associated with quitting do dimish. It gets easier. If you're feeling miserable, out of sorts, crabby, etc, remember its only TEMPORARY. And it truly is. Rooting you on here!!!! Artist, hang in there you will find yourself again in the mist of all these adjustment your body is doing to adjust to life without smoking. I stopped for 6 years and started again and recently I stopped for 7 months then started again. It has gotten less scary with each quit but I still go through all the withdrawl. Everyday will get better. And you are doing the right thing.
