It won't stop

Thank you all so much for your replies. I guess I just had it too easy in the beginning, which is very different from any other time I've "tried" to quit. I didn't expect a trial, or at least not so soon. I have quit at least 20 times over the years, and never stayed quit for long. And if I think about it, I never really planned to stay quit. Just thought I would see how far I went, and never committed to staying quit. This one is very different for me in that I have not really struggled much and have not been a screaming tazmanian devil, either. Sometimes I think you need SOME struggle to never want to go through it again. I know it's my choice and I suppose I just wanted some applause. Or maybe sympathy. Or just plain encouragement. I don't know. I am 52 years old, smoked since I was 12, and don't really know how to be an adult without a bunch of dried leaves wrapped in burning paper stuffed in my face. Maybe this was just a temper tantrum. I think this is going to be a long learning process, and some of it I look forward to, and some I most definately do not. I realize now that I never did the one thing I'd been doing all along, which was to turn it over to God. The time I most needed to, I didn't. Just proved my own point, didn't I? But I'm over the crisis now, and I do thank you all again for your replies, I can't tell you how much you all helped. Hi all, I have had a fairly easy quit until today. I found a pack of smokes under the seat of my car, open with 4 smokes in it. Coming up on 14 days and certainly don't want to smoke, but that was such an evil thing to happen. I held on to them for about 6 miles, and then threw them out the window on the freeway...littering I know, but I couldn't get them out of my mind, and couldn't wait till I got home, cuz the thoughts wouldn't stop. And now the thoughts are back and they wont stop and I've done all I know to do, and it's like serial craves and it's wearing me down and I feel like crying and I did cry and I just am not sure what more to do. My husband says I survived a crisis, but it feels more like I'm still in it... Way to go Lady! Good job on tossing those smokes! Could you teach your parrots to say "You rock Lady!" My advice, when the day suck, pack it in early. Tomorrow will be a new day....and there won't be any cigarettes lurking around. You passed a big test.........time for a big reward! 14 days!!! I think virtually every single quitter runs into a situation at one point or another where they will find cigarettes somewhere... in the car, in a coat pocket, under a couch cushion, etc... what you do with them is the important thing, not the fact that you found them. Likewise with these thoughts. Everyone gets these smoking thoughts... it's what we do with them that matters... so what are you going to do with these thoughts? Are you going to continue to think about smoking those 4 cigarettes that you wisely threw out the window, or are you going to acknowledge the thoughts as junkie thoughts and then let them go? I know it's not easy sometimes to let the thoughts go, but it's very important that you do. I think about it this way... you can't stop a thought from entering your brain, just like you can't stop a bird from flying over you and pooping on your head. But you CAN stop it from making a nest there! So when you get a thought, acknowledge it as a thought and dismiss it. So another one comes? You do the same thing. And then you do something else to get your mind off of it... do something that requires mental activity so that you don't have any extra brain space for these thoughts. I know it's not easy, but your husband is right! You HAVE survived a crisis! Whether you go back to the crisis and keep living it is your choice. Crave the Quit! pam My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/28/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 366 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,168 Amount Saved: $1511.58 Life Gained: Days: 26 Hrs: 14 Mins: 46 Seconds: 58

Parrot Lady, your hubby is right you're a survivor, congratulations, now you have to get your mind off it, this is a mind game, keep busy, reward yourself, you really deserve it, take a bubble bath, catch a movie ..... it's ok to cry and hit your pillow and yell, whatever you have to do to stay quit. Congratulations again you're a winner :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 138 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,081 Amount Saved: $552 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 7 Mins: 1 Seconds: 50

What is with these darn cigs finding us :eg: Boy I could not beleive my eyes when I saw 5 packs!!! What is up with that??? Sure messed with my head. Sounds like we are on the same page.(day :p) We are going to do this. We have to much time invested to give up now. Tossing was good. When I found those packs, for a brief moment, I thought I'll hide two and show the rest to my husband. Then I thought it would be a lot of work sneaking a smoke so I showed him all of them. I just want this day over  See ya tomorrow. Glad you did the right thing ParrotLady. I don't know how folks find cigs anywhere after they quit. I knew where each and every one of those menthols were even when I was sleeping. I knew there was no back-up pack in the glovebox, or hidden in the garage -- why? Because I smoked them all. When I decided to quit, the cigs were all gone. Had I found them, I am sure I prolly would have lit one up. That's why I made sure I would never let myself be around them. If you happen to find more, get away or drown them in water right away! It's normal that you feel a sense of loss to the cigarettes, but they just want to end your life sooner. If crying makes you feel better, then cry, you're giving up something you have done for a very long time! Know that you made the right decision and we are SO proud of you and your hubby will be glad to have you be a healthier person too :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 218 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,718 Amount Saved: $763 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 5 Mins: 44 Seconds: 3
